Editorial Review:
(Drama) The story of Beatrix Potter, the author of the beloved and best-selling children's book, "The Tale of Peter Rabbit", and her struggle for love, happiness and success.
Description of Miss Potter:
Miss Potter walks that fine line between charming and cloying with pleasing sure-footedness. Apple-cheeked Renee Zellweger (Bridget Jones' Diary) once again slips into a British accent to play writer/illustrator Beatrix Potter, the creator of Peter Rabbit. Potter, born into wealth, fought the disapproval of her high society mother to do something as crass as publish a book...and to fall in love with her publisher, Norman Warne (Ewan McGregor, previously teamed with Zellweger in Down With Love). Unfortunately, their love runs into something worse than upper-class stuffiness. Miss Potter skips through Potter's life a bit too briskly at times, but Zellweger's thankfully restrained performance, McGregor's infinite charm, and some beautiful shots of the English landscape keep the movie grounded and engaging. Also featuring a crackling supporting performance by Emily Watson (Breaking the Waves) as Warne's sister Millie. --Bret Fetzer
Miss Potter Reviews:
Efficient website
2009-10-17 - I ordered Mrs. Potter for my daughter. It was easy to order on the website. The shipping took a few days longer than expected but when we saw the originating address of Canada, we were fine with it. The item was new and excellent condition. I was really pleased with my first time experience using Amazon!
a potter fan......no not Harry!
2009-10-04 - We rented this first from Netflix and knew i had to own a copy - got a good price on Amazon, and have shared it with many.....given it to them to watch, not copied it!
Great story about a woman who knew what she wanted and worked to make it happen, and found love on the way.
A very sweet film
2009-09-18 - I caught this on TV last night and just loved it. I missed a little of the beginning, so I can't wait to watch the whole movie now that I've ordered the DVD.
Simply put, this film is just ... sweet. I love nothing better than seeing innocent love well depicted. Of course, it does compress some episodes of Beatrix Potter's life, but it does so brilliantly -- and anyway, who cares? This film will not disappoint anyone who appreciates the beauty of true love.
Great period piece movie
2009-09-10 - Although we're on Netflix there's some movies that you just have to "own". This is one of those films
A woman ahead of her time!
2009-09-02 - It was so interesting to learn of the woman behind the children's books. She was truely ahead of her time, strong and a wonderful conservationist. Her personal story was very moving and I will enjoy watching this again and again.
