Editorial Review:
If Faith Evans's self-titled debut was inexplicably entwined in the rise of the Bad Boy empire, her eagerly anticipated follow-up, Keep the Faith, has been further steeped in the history of hip-hop--before anyone heard a note. There are plenty of ballads here ("No Way" and "Lately I" being the best), and Evans doesn't hesitate to mine her emotional turmoil for lyrical material, but it's the welcome inclusion of sublime mid-tempo grooves ("Sunny Days," "Life Will Pass You By") and party jams like "All Night Long" that make this album a sure-fire classic. Forget the hype and enjoy the sound of Evans's gospel-trained voice riding the old-school beats in the addictive "Love Like This." The most interesting thing about this album is not Evans's personal trials but that despite them, her voice is still as sweet as the caramel kisses she sings about. --Rebecca Wallwork
Keep the Faith Reviews:
Keep the Faith...
2009-04-15 - I love this CD..to me she didn't get the credit she deserved. My all time personnal top 5..inspirational song is on this album. "Keep the Faith"...It's a uplifting song and when I pull this CD out this is the first cut I listen to. This CD is full of soft ballands and simple sweet beats that flow so well thoughout this CD. I personnally think this is the best CD of her to date..not to say the others are gReat..but this is just my personnnal favorite. You must get this..don't think should "I"..what are you waiting for?
Keep the Faith - actually 3.5 stars
2008-12-28 - Faith successfully avoided a sophomore jinx with this album which I think was her attempt to distinguish herself from Mary J Blige and not go the route of repeating what she'd already done on her debut album.
I recently read her biography which helped me put this album in perspective - I initially viewed it as a somber low key album due to the turmoil she faced at that time but now years later, I can tell that a lot of these songs deal with her falling in love with Todd Russaw and not all about the death of Big.
Are there a lot of the edgy bumpin' beat driven songs from her debut? NO but there are some beautifully written and inspirational tracks that fans should love since they showcase her vocal ability.
My standout tracks are: LOVE LIKE THIS - one of my favorite Faith tracks and I love the video
FAITH (intro) - gorgeous interlude
ALL NIGHT LONG - another great upbeat track
TEARS AWAY (interlude) - pretty almost gospel sounding track
LIFE WILL PASS YOU BY - the lyrics are inspirational and the sample used was incorporated seamlessly
MY FIRST LOVE - another well written track
NEVER GONNA LET YOU GO - one of my favorite Faith ballads
LATELY I - her vocals are perfection - restrained & heartfelt
Honorable mention goes to NO WAY - a track Faith & Kelly Price co-wrote and on which Kelly provides backing vocals. I really wish these two would collaborate and write/produce a gospel album. Their voices blend so beautifully together and made me think about their collabo with Whitney Houston on HEARTBREAK HOTEL - such a sublime track!
Her Best Work
2008-01-09 - While you can easily find a hit on all of her CD's, this is the only one you can listen to straight through, and every track is a hit! This CD is still heavily in my rotation 9+ years after its release. I hate it when an artist deviates from what made them successful, and I can only hope that she can recapture the feeling in her future works that has made me "Keep the Faith" all these years.
4 1/2 Stars... Definitely Her Best
2007-03-16 - After Biggie's death, this album really puts her emotions out there and she releases an excellent follow-up to her debut album. This is an album for someone whose going thru a situation and need someone to relate to going thru similar situations. It's a little on the dark side because there aren't many uplifting songs, but the Faith fans will not be disappointed.
Standout tracks: "My First Love", "Life Will Pass You By", "Caramel Kisses", "Never Let You Go", "Love Like This"
Faith's Post Biggie Release is excellent............
2007-02-13 - Faith picks up the pieces and drops a very worthy album.
