Description of The First Lady:
Faith Evans, wife of the late Biggie Smalls, has probably seen more sympathy in her 10 bumpy years in the recording business than she knows what to do with. But that doesn't curb our compulsion to cheer over her latest triumph, The First Lady, her debut release on Columbia after stepping away from Bad Boy Records, is a hoot-and-holler worthy affair that has nothing to do with misplaced pity. Out she storms on opener "Goin' Out Tonight" with Pharrell and Pusha T, thrusting her graceful but sturdy voice over a propulsive, hand-clappy beat. In the space of a single track, she's navigating the Motown-ish thumps and funky guitar riffs of the first single, "Again," to lay bare the facts behind her 2004 stint in rehab. Throughout, Evans' breathy voice seems incapable of jumping the groove—here's an R&B princess with a jazz diva's sense of timing—and on songs like "Mesmerized" she slinks into a ‘70s soul place that leaves us wishing we could time-travel together more often. Tacked to the end for fans who discovered Evans via the Coach Carter soundtrack is her collaboration with Twista from that film, the hip-hop track "Hope." --Tammy La Gorce

The First Lady Reviews:
Perfect 5 Star Review
2009-10-11 - I received my CD 2 days after I had purchased it. It came brand new, still in plastic and had not a mark on it. I am very happy with this company. Definitly for what I paid for it even with the shipping. I would have paid 3 times that much (even with shipping) in a regular store. I will order from them again and would tell anyone else to do so as well.

Get In The Right *Moods* To Break Free! 5 Star Review
2009-09-27 - While Faith Evans has had many slow tempo styles in the past, she manages to bring just a bit more to enjoy! It's a soulful album filled with deep felt lyrics along lively full of fire singing on some tracks and mellow smooth ones on others! She has definitely turned the corner of boredom and instead brought varying blends to R&B lovers. From topics of love and going out, to hope, faith, hanging out with the girls and more. There's all types of songs very pleasant and enjoyable thus enhancing the listening experience to elevate moods and refresh! All throughout the listening experience there are varying themes never tiring nor monotonous. Featured artists include Pharrell, Pusha T, Mario Winans, and Twista.

This is a singer with a rich, deep sound very much talented and distinct! Every song offers something extraordinary not dull nor tiring. This would be my favorite album when my moods need to wind down a bit from feeling too energized or for when I just want to relax. It's a tough, busy world and sometimes a dose of smooth R&B along excellent singing is the cure!

There are many romantic references in songs like "Tru Love", "Jealous", "Catching Feelings" "Until You Came" and "Mesmerized" definitely soft, soothing, and filled with hope, and faith, as well as issues many can relate to.

"Again" is one of my favorite tracks for the fact that it brings the themes of how the mistakes in the past were not bad since they make you who you are, "If I had to do it all again, I wouldn't take away the rain. Cause you know it made me who I am..."

"Mesmerized" is probably another one of my favorite tracks off the album for it's effect on my listening experience. She sounds so full of fire like Mary J Blige and Beyonce. It's Faith Evans filled with soul, pouring out that New Orleans vibe or Underground Atlanta feeling! Her voice sounds more raw at times like Keyshia Cole on some portions meshed with Mary; loved it! And the words to the song are even more enticing as they have a woman feeling hypnotized by a new person who has become like a magnet, uncontrollable force, and playful thing!

Hip-hop favorites would have to be "Goin' Out featuring Pharrell and Pusha T for the party type moods and fabulous rap and "Hope" with Twista featuring Faith. "Hope" has excellent rhymes along the important things in life reflected in the Lord, prayer, and feeling hopeful. The sound in the music and singing brings positive auras, faith, soulful styles, and refreshing sensations. In short, the hip-hop portion of the album really impressed me!

The entire listening focuses on positive moods, finding a special love and freeing the spirit from the things in life that can drag you down like chains on your neck. It's a breaking through from the trappings of every day struggles and freeing yourself. It's about getting down to feeling in the right mood; no repressions, no arguing or fussing, no negativity, no stress, just pure sheer fantasy filled dreams that can definitely turn real if you have faith, hope, trust, and believe! Do your thing, feel hope, get a lucky Day, feel Mesmerized! Goin' Out Again? Stop N Go as you catch the feelings of true love with THE FIRST LADY!

She's got style 4 Star Review
2007-11-17 - This is a pretty good CD. I got it really cheap from here on Amazon so that helped! I haven't really listened to her other CDs so I can't compare even though I bought 2 of her earlier albums along with this one.

1. Goin' Out (featuring Pharrell and Pusha T)
This has a real good feel to it. Makes you wanna get out & dance.
2. Again
I love this song! It's just a testimony. Real and honest.
3. I Don't Need It
Decent song.
4. Stop N Go
Umm...this isn't memorable.
5. Mesmerized
Has a throwback funky feel to it.
6. Tru Love
Really like this one too. Love song.
7. Jealous
Faith said she jealous and selfish and won't lie cause she know it. She'll check her man pager too.
8. Ever Wonder (featuring Mario Winans)
Decent song.
9. Catching Feelings
Just decent. Not memorable.
10. Get Over You
Decent song.
11. Until You Came
Good sound. I like this one.
12. Lucky Day
It's okay. Not great though.
13. Hope (Twista featuring Faith Evans)
Love love love! Twista telling the truth on this one! And Faith is the right one for the chorus.
