Editorial Review:
One of the most popular book series of all time, "CHOOSE YOUR OWN ADVENTURE®" comes to life in this revolutionary DVD that allows children to create their own stories by making different plot choices using interactive DVD technology.
Voice-overs by: William H. Macy (Seabiscuit), Frankie Muniz ("Malcolm in the Middle"), Lacey Chabert, ("Party of Five"), Daryl Sabara ("Spy Kids") and Felicity Huffman ("Desperate Housewives").
When Uncle Rudy goes missing in the Himalayan Mountains while looking for the mythical Yeti creature, Benjamin, Crista and Marco rise to the heights of adventure to find their Uncle. Will they rescue him and discover the secret of the Yeti (also known as The Abominable Snowman)? Or will dangerous avalanches, evil poachers, and hungry tigers foil their plans? It's up to you to decide - Their fate is in your hands! So, grab your remote control and get ready to "Choose Your Own Adventure®"!
Description of Choose Your Own Adventure - The Abominable Snowman:
Innovative use of new technology has given rise to a truly original video adventure in which viewer choice determines both the characters' course of action and the very outcome of their journey. Based on the Choose Your Own Adventure book series, the new CGI animated Choose Your Own Adventure: The Abominable Snowman begins with the three North siblings, Benjamin (Frankie Muniz), Crista (Lacey Chabert), and Marco (Daryl Sabara), who are following their Uncle Rudy (William H. Macy) to the Himalayas in Nepal on a quest to find the elusive Yeti (Abominable Snowman). Before the kids even arrive in Nepal, viewers are called upon to decide with their remote control whether the group should parachute out of a malfunctioning plane or ride out a tough emergency landing. Once in Nepal, the group's path necessitates making a multitude of choices between opposing actions. Should they choose the conservative or adventuresome path? Follow a trusted guide or an apparently well-meaning stranger? Choose personal comfort or tenacious perseverance to the quest? Unlike most video games and interactive DVD features, there are no "wrong" decisions; each of the choices leads to a full length, yet distinct adventure with viewer's choices determining the very outcome of the adventure. In fact, viewers can potentially watch the movie eleven times and experience a different scenario with a varying outcome each viewing.
An excellent 28-minute bonus feature details life in Nepal and features real photography of Nepal's citizens going about their daily lives intermixed with interviews and footage of students from Seattle's Hamilton International Middle School and students in their sister school Kaveresthali in Katmandu, Nepal. The entire feature is accompanied by informative narration by Kate Fleming that touches upon Nepal's topography, customs, food, transportation, forms of employment, and primary religions. Other bonus features include a music video of the theme song and a behind the scenes featurette featuring actor and producer commentaries about the making of the show, individual characters, and the immense research that contributed to the authenticity of the program. And for those of you who like to complain about how she is not preety in the face rejoice!!! Thi s is animated!! so now you can rent it and enjoy Huffman's voice in the privacy of you're own home!!
Great Buy
2007-06-27 - My son watches this DVD over and over again. It has been proven to be quite entertaining and would highly recomend this DVD for 6 year olds.
The Abominable Snowman DVD
2007-01-16 - It was very cute and the grandchildren I gave it to were very "into it ".
Anything that gets them more involved with reading and stories is great. They are all 5 years old and it's the perfect time to really intensify the reading the family has incorporated into their lives since they were babies.
I also loved the little "making good choices" lessons it taught subliminally through the children's choices made during the story.
Kid Spectacular
2006-09-06 - What a great idea. My godson and his siblings love it. It's a pretty unique offering to find something that's as educational as it is entertaining. Can't wait for the next one!!!
fun but kind of short
2006-08-25 - This is the first video from an old series of books that my kids love because they keep reading them different ways to get different endings. They like the video, because they get to choose which way to go at various junctures in the adventure, but all in all the video was short and not very robust.
