Fleetwood Mac - Destiny Rules Reviews: The Mac Is Back! 2009-08-22 - This documentary was so good. It was very informative and insightful. It showed the viewers that being a rock star was not all It's cracked up to be. Spending a large part of your life with someone that you've been intimate with, locked up together for days and weeks at a time, can be pure torture. It made me understand them a lot more. And the problems that they've endured over the years. How they overcame their differences and that they needed to separate in order to reunite in a healthy and spiritual way. The documentary was so good, I just had to purchase the C.D., Say You Will. EXCELLENT!
Fleetwood Mac rocks! 2009-06-25 - Love this concert!! Fabulous songs and love Stevie and Lindsey's playfulness on Tusk, and dedicating Landslide to Lindsey. Great show!
Clash of the titans 2009-02-08 - Lindsey Buckingham has spent his fairly low-profile solo career trying to update the art of rock/pop production, writing, and arrangement. His albums have always been critical successes with a modest impact on the marketplace. Stevie Nicks has cannily sold her ethereal image and succeeded partly through a series of collaborations with top artists such as Don Henley, Tom Petty, and Prince.
Nicks's songs for the "Say You Will" project seem to often retell the story of her rekindled romance with Lindsey during the "Dance" tour. Her residual bitterness that he eventually left her to marry another woman and start a family underwrites a lot of the tension between them on this video.
But the tensiion goes beyond that to bigger issues. Lindsey is that rare artist who will sacrifice financial rewards to fulfill his vision. In this case, he wanted to recreate the artistic success of "Tusk," widely regarded as a masterpiece. Sometimes he comes across as stubborn and relentless, since everyone in else in the band wants to just have as big a hit as possible. Still, you have respect him as an artist who tries to stay true to his creative path. It is also clear in this video that Lindsey plays the largest role not only in the production of Fleetwood Mac records, but in management decisions.
Stevie Nicks, at one point, discusses the demographics of their audience, arguing that they should be realistic if they want a successful album.
This is the focus of this documentary, a true gift for fans of Lindsey, Stevie, or Fleetwood Mac. In reality TV style, it does focus on conflicts at the expense of musical or artistic issues. Still, it's fascinating.
for the die hard fleetwood mac fans 2008-12-29 - i really liked this video. it gave a good insight into what goes into the making of an album. how they put it all together. the music and the words. along with the human side of the band. stevie is my all time favorite recording artist. the music and words that she and lindsey put together was the best ever. it was a great to see them at work.
Definitely one for the collection 2008-09-24 - This doucmentary is as good as any about the making of an music album that I've seen. What sets this film apart are the points of debate in regards to what it takes to create a successful, profitable album for today's music market. I found the whole 'double album' question quite amusing considering how it eventually resolved itself to become a single album.
All the members of the band are portrayed honestly and speak frankly about their new songs and working together. However i think it may have been more satisfying to actually have the members reflect on their past and now present dynamics with each other. It seemed that the film makers just skimmed the surface of these relationships (especially between Stevie and Lindsey).
Furthermore many songs from the SYW album are covered but I think the film would have been stronger had they actually revealed a little more of the artistic basis of these songs. I had wished that they had delved into "Say Goodbye" as this would have made an interesting juxtaposition with the "Thrown Down" section of the film.
Nevertheless it was great to see songs from Say You Will being worked on from demo form, recording and then to mixing. I especially loved the care to each other that is being nurtured between the band. It's also obvious that this band do have a very strong bond between all of them and I would definitely recommend this dvd for anyone a fan of music documentary.
Now I've got my fingers crossed they'll release the Tusk documentary.
