Editorial Review:
From Fran Drescher, here's the funny and empowering New York Times bestseller about taking charge of health problems and finding humor in the face of adversity. Part inspirational cancer-survival story, part memoir-as-a-laugh-riot, CANCER SCHMANCER picks up where Fran's last book, Enter Whining, left off. After the publication of that book, Fran's life launched into a downward spiral. She separated from a long and complicated relationship, her TV series started to slip in the ratings, and the health of her beloved dog Chester was failing fast. Then came the mysterious symptoms no doctor could explain. With her trademark sense of humor, Fran tells of her long search for answers and the cancer diagnosis that she ultimately beat. But not before a gold mine of insights were revealed to her about the importance of taking charge of your own health and recognizing what's most important in life.
Cancer Schmancer Reviews:
Fabulously helpful!
2009-09-02 - This book was so fabulously helpful for my friend who is a breast cancer survivor and who was recently diagnosed with uterine cancer. This book helped her see that she wasn't alone and helped her in her journey. Thank you Fran!
really good
2009-07-10 - It is a must read book. Fran is georgious at her view and presentation of the problem.
The book arrived really quickly even if I am in france.
This book should have been the one called Enter Whining!!
2009-07-05 - Let me start by saying I am a HUGE fan of Ms. Drescher! I have the seasons of The Nanny on DVD and have seen every episode many, many times! I love that show! I watched and liked her short-lived show "Living With Fran", and bought and read her first book Enter Whining.
However, this book just made me angry. First lets start with the cover with her "be Strong" tank top...I feel that frankly, she was not really all that strong. I don't know why she wrote the book as a "strong, cancer survivor"?? I guess that is how she feels. But, I feel that she was just a lucky celebrity. She was lucky in that she had only a small cancerous tumor, and had it removed. That was it. I don't know how she had to be all that strong. I really don't feel she had that much to do with it.
She didn't have to have emergency surgery to keep her alive. She did not have to suffer through terrible chemo and radiation, she did not have to deal with any re-occurances. Getting through all those things definately make you a strong survivor!!
All she did was be able to afford to see many, many specialists. Get star treatment by getting fast appoinments, and getting the actual doctors to call her right back. She got a private nurse at the hospital. She had servants at home. She got to take all the time she needed to recover, without worrying about the bills piling up or taking care of the kids or losing her job, or how to pay the massive medical bills...things real people deal with. What did she get to do, vacation in France!
Now, before you get on my case, I had cancer myself. I, like Fran, went many years without it being diagnosed. My cancer was very rare, and was very large, and almost killed me. I had to have emergency surgery to save my life. I was sick for many years before I sort-of recovered.
But, since I did not have to endure chemo and radiation, and I have not had any reoccurances, Thank God,... I don't consider myself a strong cancer survivor at all. I just consider myself lucky to be alive. I think Fran should have just been thankful for her good fortune, and gone on with her life rather than write this book.
Fran Drescher - Cancer Shmancer
2008-12-21 - Although not Shakespeare, the book was very informative & entertaining. For anyone, such as myself, who has been through this horrible ordeal, it is highly recommended reading. You may even learn a thing or two from the wisdom & experience of Francine Joy...

Heartwarming Tale of How To Attack Cancer
2008-11-13 - I read this book 4years ago while fighting Neck & Head Cancer. It was very refreshing from the serious books and made we realize we can do something about what is dealt us. I bought this book as a gift for a friend who was just starting Chemo for Breast Cancer and she absolutely loved it as well. Cancer Schmancer
