Angels & Devils Reviews:
Its ok 2 Star Review
2009-12-18 - I have always liked Fuel, but had no idea Brett left (yeah so I don't keep up with the times). So boy was I in for a surprise when I started playing this album. First off, this new guy does his best to keep the band sounding like it used to, but it unfortunately doesn't pan out. His voice is pitchy, whiny, and doesn't hit the range Brett did. The album is pretty good with no bad songs, but none that really 'wowed' me either. It feels like generic radio music, because after I gave it 2 full listens, nothing really stuck in my head. I try pretending that this isn't Fuel and instead some new band, so I can give the new guy an honest listen. Its just not a very memorable album. Maybe good backround music when I play on x-box but I can't see myself actualyl looking for this album specifically

Awesome CD!!! 5 Star Review
2009-08-29 - This CD was exactly what I wanted. Fuel may not be the same without their original singer but I still love this new album. I would recommend buying it!!

Great songs, painful vocals 2 Star Review
2008-12-24 - The new singer's attempt to imitate Brett Scallion's masculine growl results in a thin, nasally rasp that feels like a dental drill in my ear. Oddly enough the dental drill effect is at its raspiest on the softest vocals. Just try listening to the ear-shredding verses of "I Should Have Told You" at high volume--you'll be reaching for the volume knob before your eardrums give out. When he belts it out at high volume, he forgets to mimic Scallion and the rasp largely disappears. Too bad about the vocals because the song writing is actually better than on any album since Sunburn. In future albums maybe they'll just let him sing with his real voice, but it's too late for this release.

Love the Vocals 4 Star Review
2008-10-17 - All in all, I think Toryn has clearly brought something wonderful to this band. I am amazed that some could even question that. Brett was certainly good and the band certainly had shining moments with "Something Like Human", but this album is very very good and very addictive. Mix Carl Bells great hooks and Toryn's vocal style and you have a great combination.

I've been a steady fan from the very beginning and own and have listened to ALL of their studio albums--incessantly. And Angels & Devils certainly makes the grade. I'm partial to "Not This Time", (love the bit of punk influence on this track) I love the heavier guitar. I am a headbanger after all and Fuel is my lighter simpler side for those mellow moods.

So what are the high points about this album, the sonic quality is top notch, well produced, (although clearly it was mixed on the loud side. But that seems to be the trend these days. Look what they did to "Death Magnetic". ) The guitar riffs are classic Fuel, grungy but with a bit of the folky attitude that makes them very popular with mainstream music fans (and makes me want to play them myself). The denser, thicker sounds of tracks like "Hangin Round" and "Not This Time" are my favorites. I also LOVE the opening riff and the chiming guitar solo on "Not This Time" as a metal head I can really dig that. And of course, the vocals are superior-emotional but heavy.

Why not a 5, well frankly it's a style thing for me. Someone in one of these reviews mentioned, it's not the masterpiece that would make it a 5 where you can play it a hundred times and not be sick of it. (like Shimmer) Tracks like "Scars in the Making" are just not my speed-literally, pretty and all but not my thing. I kept waiting for it to transition into a faster riff (like Shimmer) but was let down. I'm partial to lots of tempo changes and intricate guitar work. Some of the tracks on this album are just a differnt style than I would normally choose.

I've very glad that Fuel is finding it's way again. Frankly I've missed hearing them on the radio and I really would like to see them live.

YOU'RE KIDDING ME , RIGHT ?? NO BRETT ! NO FUEL!! 1 Star Review
2008-10-09 - IT'S A CRYING SHAME THAT CARL BELL COULD'NT AND WOULD'NT GIVE BRETT THE CHANCE TO WRITE SOME SONGS OF HIS OWN FOR THE GROUP. HE IS A BRILLANT AND MOST DESIRABLE SINGER AND SONGWRITER. I REALLY THINK CARL SHOULD RETHINK THE NAME OF THE BAND TO SAY.....THE CARL BELL BAND!!! FUEL NAME BELONGS TO THE LEAD SINGER BRETT SCALLIONS WHO REALLY DESERVES IT!! AND THATS HOW I FEEL ABOUT THAT! DONE.
