Description of The Long Kiss Goodnight:
Geena Davis and her former husband, director Renny Harlin, attempted to pick up the pieces after the debacle of their box-office disaster, Cutthroat Island. What they came up with was this repulsive ode to American film noir, based on a script by Shane Black (Lethal Weapon) about an amnesiac schoolteacher (Davis) who searches for her true identity and finds she is actually a secret agent immersed in a deadly plot to topple the government. Mechanistic in its violence, obnoxious in its attitude, the film makes Davis, a once-promising actress, nothing more than a special effect. She tosses one to sadists in the audience by allowing her character to be beaten, punched unconscious, and tortured. The DVD release has optional full-screen and widescreen presentations, plus Dolby surround sound, theatrical trailer, cast information, optional French-language soundtrack and optional Spanish subtitles. --Tom Keogh

    The Long Kiss Goodnight Reviews:
A POPCORN MUNCHER'S DREAM FLICK 5 Star Review
2009-11-25 - The plot of this movie is absolutely tired, but Harlin's over-the-top, go-for-broke direction, and the chemistry between Geena Davis, and Samuel L. Jackson ( who is simply hilarious in this film ) turn what should have been a run of the mill actioner into a hyperbolic, funfest. THE LONG KISS GOODNIGHT is more than just a little fun to watch, and describing Davis as a Sigourney Weaver wanna-be is more than a little simplistic. It's fun to see a kick-ass woman protagonist who can dish out some great one-liners, and blow the bad guys away with the same aplomb as Clint, or Bruce- or Arnold for that matter. On top of that, Craig Bierko made one loathsome, but fun-to-hate villain. I fully admit that this movie is a 'guilty pleasure,' and I'm quite guilty of loving it.

Easy, sport. I got myself outta Beirut once, I think I can get outta New Jersey 4 Star Review
2009-11-20 - The reviewers can say what they like, because I love this film. Its one of the few films where a woman is the one that saves the day and isn't flopping around like an idiot. Also, Geena Davis and Samuel L Jackson have real chemistry.

An All-Time Fave! 5 Star Review
2009-11-19 - The Long Kiss Goodnight still stands -- after all these years -- as one of my all-time favorite action films. It has the perfect balance of close-up action, big special effects, comedic interludes, crisp writing, and human drama. It's important to bear in mind that this film was made before the spy-with-amnesia plot had become overused, before Samuel L. Jackson's on-screen persona had become stereotyped, before women had been legitimized as action heroes, and before anyone else (that I can think of) had tried a male-female "buddy" movie! The principle characters are all multidimensional, athough the villains are a bit clicheed. But, in the process of delivering an outstanding action movie, Samantha/Charly (Geena Davis) and Mitch (Samuel L. Jackson) must each face and resolve a number of down-to-earth issues about their lives, role identities, and personal character -- the kind we all eventually face, and which give this movie a humanity that's rare in the action/buddy genre.

Unfortunately, myopic critics panned the film, so it didn't produce well enough at the box office to warrant a sequel. But, don't let its relative obscurity rob you of the opportunity to enjoy this trendsetting gem!

Decent film, not great 3 Star Review
2009-09-16 - Geena Davis does a good job playing both personalities, and Sam "The Man" Jackson is great as Henessey, but the plot cliches take it down a couple notches.

Side note: Why does Amazon's review loathe the film, yet list it as "Essential Viewing"?

One of my top 10! 5 Star Review
2009-05-25 - There hasn't been a review on this movie for a long time. That said you can see the movie description for the plot synopsis, I just want to add that this is an outstanding movie! One of my top 10 movies of all time! Geena Davis is awesome! A great action-comedy movie. I highly recommend you watch/own this movie.
