Editorial Review:
Gene Hackman has ridden the Hollywood rollercoaster to emerge arguably as one of the industry's most respected actors. the odds were against Gene Hackman becoming a star but after his Oscar-winning performance in the French Connection he was pulled in two directions-by his own integrity as an actor to choose work of quality and by the lure of commercial film-making. When he found he was unable to bridge the gap his life and career began to crumble under the pressure. He managed to forge a comeback that was a make-or-break attempt to rebuild his career. Without much forethought or design he managed to build upon his reputation as a brilliant actor who was in demand by directors
Gene Hackman Reviews:
I love this man!
2000-03-31 - This was a good book. Case closed. Hackman was great in BONNIE AND CLYDE! I love that movie.
Errors are rife
1997-09-22 - In just picking up the book I found one typo on the first page I turned to, and when I looked at the pages on "Get Shorty," Dennis Farina's name was spelled incorrectly (this was not a typo, even the index had it wrong). Any idiot who knows anything about character actors would know how to spell his name, or at least have an accurate cast list. The book doesn't do a good job dealing with the films. The author writes a few anecdotes, then simply reports how it was reviewed. Hackman deserves better
