Editorial Review:
This MGM musical helps to epitomize the genre. The 1952 film starred Gene Kelly, Donald O'Connor, and Debbie Reynolds. Reynolds's tracks, particularly "All I Do Is Dream of You" tend to make her sound like one of the munchkins from The Wizard of Oz, which is unfortunate. It's Gene Kelly's songs that are the most enjoyable. The title track is still wonderful, and so engaging you'll want to swing on lightpoles all over town. An outtake of Kelly's version of "All I Do Is Dream of You" is another gem, and the M-G-M Studio Orchestra is at its flawless best throughout--even if some of the incidental music sounds like a Tex Avery cartoon score. --Scott Wilson
Singin' in the Rain (1952 Film Soundtrack) Reviews:
A walk down the lane with a happy refrain
2009-09-11 - They simply do not make music or musicals like this, anymore. In 1952, in an era sandwiched between Be Bop and Big Band, "Singin' in the Rain" managed to merge both jazz genres. The MGM orchestra is second to none! The remastering is adequate for modern speakers although a little ambient buzz is evident.
If you want to spend an hour or so someplace else, just hit the play button.
GREATEST MUSICAL EVER MADE!!
2008-09-15 - SINGIN' IN THE RAIN WAS ABSOLUTELY MAGNIFICENT IN ALL RESPECTS---IT HAD
EVERYTHING...AND DONALD OCONNOR ACTUALLY STOLD THE SHOW---BUT WHO WILL
EVER FORGET GENE KELLY DOING THE TITLE SONG IN THE RAIN!!!!
Gotta love Singing in the Rain
2008-07-18 - I had this album in my cart at iTunes waiting to buy and before I decided to buy (a few weeks later) you could no longer get the album you had buy songs only and some of the songs came up missing. I checked with Amazon and I could get the whole album cheaper than they had it listed at iTunes if I bought all the songs and Amazon had all the songs included in the album price. So... there you go.
All Singin' with no tappin'
2008-02-29 - As much as people complain about the lack of tapping in this soundtrack, I must say I prefer it with just the music and singing. After all, the whole idea of a soundtrack is to have the music from the film, not the dammed sound effects! Having a soundtrack with sound effects is like taking the sound direct from the movie, when you have that going on...it makes more sense to jolly well watch the moive! This is differnt however, there really is no sound effects, just the singing and music.
If I'm honest, hearing Debbie singing "would you?" (which is a bonus track on this CD) made me think, she was better than the woman that overdubbed her voice, this album certainly gives you the chance to hear stuff that wasn't in the movie.
Deffinatly something I recommend to anyone who wants the origional soundtrack from such an iconic film, the real deal. It's cracking without all that tapping! :P (yes, I am English)
Singin' in the Rain (Soundtrack)
2007-09-01 - This was a wonderful movie and the soundtrack is just as enjoyable. Listening to it brought back memories of specific scenes. I highly recommend it.
