Xanadu Reviews:
Pop music doesn't get any better than this.
2009-10-03 - It's Olivia in her prime, hittin' those John Farrar songs outta the park.
It's ELO at their most inventive, dabbling in Gospel here, symphonics there.
There's not a weak track on this soundtrack; too bad the MOVIE wasn't this good!
But, really -- in terms of pop, what more could anyone possibly want?
Fun, entertaining soundtrack for an amazingly BAD movie
2009-07-12 - The movie "Xanadu" is, well, just plain bad. The soundtrack on the other hand has some terrific pop songs. John Farrar's track "Magic" sung by Olivia Newton-John is pure pop heaven. Most of the other tracks vary from OK to really good.
The ELO tracks sound like they belong on some sort of lost follow up to "Discovery". "I'm Alive" and "The Fall" meld gorgeous melodies to the classic ELO sound mixed with a disco beat. "Don't Walk Away" and "All Over the World" are the highlights while the title track written by Jeff Lynne and performed by Olivia Newton-John (Jeff Lynne did a version that is on the ELO boxed set)is perfect pompous pop music capturing everything that is both absurd and terrific about ELO all and ONJ.
The sound on the CD is quite good. I haven't heard the remaster from the UK.
ELO: Xanadu (Remastered Version) -Only Available in UK
2009-06-22 - [...]
The 1998 UK-only remastered edition, taken from the original Jet Records master tapes. The most superior sounding version of all Xanadu CD's, including MCA's USA and Sony's Japanese editions.
The remastered CD's 8-page color booklet reproduces the original gatefold & inner lyric sleeves.
Perfect Product
2009-03-23 - The CD was in perfect shape and the transaction was smooth!! Very happy with my order!!
Best. Soundtrack. Ever.
2009-02-16 - Forget the hype of the movie, forget the embarrassing special effects, poor acting, and ridiculous plotholes. Try just for a moment, to relax your critical perspective. Then allow yourself to get swept away in the silly landscapes of Electric Light Orchestra and Olivia Newton-John, together creating a world where shiny lights, shooting stars, and silly leg warmers will live on forever.
I love this soundtrack so much, I've had it consistently in my collection on cassette or CD since it came out in 1980. I never tire of it. Yes it's absurd, but it's brilliant at the same time. Much like the rest of the 80's turned out, no?
