Description of Hunter - The Complete Third Season:
Created by Frank Lupo (The A-Team), Hunter was one of producer Stephen J. Cannell's more tough-minded cop shows. Credit the character of LAPD Det. Sgt. Rick Hunter (former NFL player Fred Dryer). Supplying the yin to Hunter's yang was partner Sgt. Dee Dee McCall (Stepfanie Kramer). "Sometimes a soft approach can work," she explains in the season premiere ("Overnight Sensation"). Unfortunately, Capt. Devane (Charles Hallahan) pulls the plug on their partnership in the following episode ("Change Partners and Dance"). "You and Hunter have gotten too close," he tells a disappointed McCall. To add insult to injury, Hunter takes the separation in stride. She thought they were friends. As it turns out, Hunter feels the same way and there's more to the breakup than meets the eye.
Other third season developments revolve around romance. Granted, Ray Wise (Twin Peaks) may be a murder suspect, but the culinary-challenged McCall can't resist a man who knows his way around a kitchen ("Crime of Passion"). A few episodes later, Hunter falls for a fellow detective with a few dirty secrets ("From San Francisco with Love"). Fortunately, there will be happier times ahead (that Hunter does get around). Filling out the quartet is Arnold "Sporty" James (original SNL cast member Garrett Morris), their snappily dressed informant, who provides a welcome jolt of eccentricity. In "Love, Hate, and Sporty James," he takes a rare lead, demonstrating some decent dramatic chops.
Twenty-two episodes were produced for Hunter's third year, including the two-part finale ("Hot Pursuit"). Notable guests include Chaka Khan ("The Cradle Will Rock"), Star Trek: The Next Generation regulars Brent Spiner ("The Contract") and Marina Sirtis ("Down and Under"), and future TV superstars Anthony LaPaglia (the Australian-set "Down and Under") and a pompadour-sporting George Clooney ("Double Exposure"). First Rate All The Way 
2009-05-10 - They don't make cop shows like this any more. I watched every season of Hunter when it first aired on TV, and am proud to welcome this latest addition into my collection. Of all the seasons of Hunter, this is my favorite. There were some great storylines, and the increased role of the Captain made for some conflict and daring policework on behalf of Rick and DeeDee. There's also a lot of great music on this season, and we see the story unfold of what happened to DeeDee's husband. It is unfortunate this is where the boxed releases of Hunter ends. The only criticism I have is that the discs are two-sided, and sometimes that means they skip or stop playing. This is a must-see season for all devoted Hunter fans. It's also great for people who are fans of good, gritty cop shows. If you are a fan of LA-based cop shows, there is a good new show, Southland, that might give fill your need. It's nice that they are still trying to make things in that genre.

2009-01-18 - If you like detective stories this is definitely a "must" see. This shows how Hunter and the Brass Cupcake become partners.
Still nice to watch
2009-01-10 - Watching Hunter now is like beeing back in the past walking through hot streets on a summer evening listening to Hunter-Music coming out of open windows..
On the money.
2009-01-06 - The Headhunter and Brass Cupcake nicknamed pair of crime fighters carry a mantra of violence as far as their supervisors are concerned, therefore the duo are denied resources that other police officers are granted normally. Dee Dee's personal car is used more often than the police units they are issued, because her's will actually run. Rick Hunter and Dee Dee McCall balance work around their boss's animosity, cars that drive themselves to the wrecking yard, really bad guys, good stories, strong action scenes and better than average punch lines to portray a pair of concerned efficient police officers in a rough environment. In other words a series that is full of action, good humor and well worth watching.

2008-12-02 - When my husband and I can sit down and watch a show together because we BOTH like it, that says something. Great show.
