Editorial Review:
In this charming romantic comedy, three-time Academy Award nominee Michelle Pfeiffer ("Dangerous Liaisons," "The Fabulous Baker Boys," "Love Field") and "ER" star George Clooney find that opposites attract whether they like it or not. Melanie Parker (Pfeiffer) is juggling single parenthood with a career as an architect. Jack Taylor (Clooney) is a commitment-shy newspaper cloumnist who only has his daughter every other weekend. When their kids miss a school field trip, Melanie and Jack agree to share babysitting for a day, resulting in twelve hours of hilarious misadventures with one unexpected twist.
Description of One Fine Day:
This gentle comedy almost seems like something out of Hollywood's Golden Age, a movie that might have been made by a talented contract director, perhaps featuring Don Ameche and Claudette Colbert. But in fact it stars George Clooney as an investigative columnist for a New York newspaper and Michelle Pfeiffer as an architect. Both single parents, the two meet and bicker and develop a relationship over the course of a day while their young children play together. Michael Hoffman (Restoration) directs with a good sense of what's funny about harried caretakers and kids who do whatever they want to do. The story stretches out of shape a bit when Clooney's character has to rally to prove some point of corruption at City Hall; nobody involved seems quite up to making that subplot believable, but all that really matters about this very nice movie is the winning love story. --Tom Keogh
One Fine Day Reviews:
One fine day...
2009-11-12 - It would have been fine if George Looney hadn't have been in this movie.
I like Michelle Pfeiffer, she's a good versatile Actress.
I give this movie a 4 of 5 stars for my dislike of George Boy!!
If you're a sucker for golden hits, then this is for you
2009-10-20 - All music seemed clear and complete, and some songs that stick with you long after you've listened.
One Fine CD
2009-10-12 - This is an enjoyable mix to listen to, even if you aren't familiar with the movie. It's got just the right combination of romantic and fun songs to make it a great addition to my ipod albums. I recommend it!
Absolutely the best soundtrack out there
2009-05-01 - This is the perfect compilation of music. The movie is great, but the soundtrack is outstanding. Perfect background music for a dinner party. Natalie Merchant's "One Fine Day" gives the song an entirely new feel. Ditto on Harry Connick Jr.'s take on Bacharach's "This Guy's In Love With You." And I particularly love Ella Fitzgerald's "Isn't It Romantic." And yes, it certainly is. One would think that Tina Arena's "Love's Funny That Way" would seem out of place with its country/pop feel, but it fits in nicely and compliments well those that surround it. This is one of those music compilations that you can listen to over and over and it never gets old.
Absolutely awful movie
2009-03-12 - I absolutely hated this movie by the time it finished.
I think it is those awful kids that need to be told exactly how
things stand in the real world, instead of being told time and
time again "Its not your fault." And the poor kitten.
By the time the movie ended I would have thought with all that
running round, its poor little brain would have been scrambled
or it definately would have thrown up all over that awful
childs chest. I hope people DO NOT take this as an example
of how to look after a live animal...
I know where I will be putting this movie!!
