  • Editorial Review:
As Chicago radio station WBN celebrates its first night on the air, someone is murdering the company employees one by one, and the station's secretary and her estranged writer-husband must join forces to find the killer. From the mind of George Lucas, creator of "Star Wars" and "Indiana Jones," comes this mystery-comedy-adventure set in the heyday of live radio. It's an enegetic, fast-paced romp, sparkling with a brilliant cast, dozens of guest stars, hilarious complications, and a toe-tapping melange of musical standards.

    Description of Radioland Murders:
Despite George Lucas's name in the credits (as executive producer) and several experiments in computer-generated imagery (seamlessly included but to little avail), this film qualifies as a major dog, a door-slamming farce in which the doors are funnier than the people slamming them. Set in a radio studio on a night in 1939 that a new radio network is being launched, the frenetic and scattered story blends a growing pile of corpses, network and sponsor politics, the crazed efforts involved to put on radio shows, and the on-again, off-again marriage of head writer Roger (Brian Benben) and secretary Penny (Mary Stuart Masterson), the only one who seems to have it together. Benben has a Groucho-like sense of timing and delivery, but he can't elevate surprisingly weak comic material. --Marshall Fine

    Radioland Murders Reviews:
    Radioland Murders 5 Star Review
2009-09-30 - I have a weird sense of humor, so this movie cracked me up. I saw it in high school years ago and then HAD to buy it. Great product, really fast delivery.

    Non-stop fun...and murder. 5 Star Review
2009-07-06 - Once this movie starts, the pace keeps going until the end. There's no lulls in this one. It's a terrific comedy with well-timed dialogue, action and yes, a bit of slap-stick. And then of course, there's murder.
This movie takes place in 1939 when radio was on the top of the world and a new station is having it's grand opening night in hopes of competing with the top 3 major networks. So naturally things go awry. For one thing, the director isn't that competent, the writers must re-write every script moments before each is due on-air, and someone is killing off people one at a time. It's along the same vein as the movie Clue. This is a must see.

A great period who dunnit 4 Star Review
2009-07-04 - A great star studded, who's who, murder mystery from before the era of the boob tube. Funny, fast moving, and just plain entertaining.

Be sure to keep an eye out as George Burns, Rosemary Clooney, and Billy Barty all make appearences.

Bob Goldthwait also tends to steal scenes as a goofball writer.

    Radioland murders 5 Star Review
2009-03-19 - A look back at the golden days of radio with a slap stick quality. Star studded. Excellent flick.

Campy and Fun 4 Star Review
2009-02-04 - Radioland Murders was George Lucas' pet project. It is filled with well known personalities. My whole family thinks it is great fun. It is campy but it also makes you laugh. Is it sometimes a little over the top? Yes, but that adds to the appeal. One brief shot of semi undress which I feel could have been eliminated with no ill effects. The same feeling could have been achieved with a little ingenuity. Overall, a fun time.
