Editorial Review:
George Strait gets away with murder--with "Murder on Music Row," even. For example, Strait long ago adapted the radio-friendly drum sound that he and Alan Jackson so rightfully dismiss on their notorious duet. And while he hasn't given up entirely on fiddle and steel, those instruments take a back seat to the stereotypically "pretty" pop guitar licks of a seamlessly constructed single such as "If You Can Do Anything Else." But Strait gets away with another kind of murder, too--the kind it's easy to commit when you know your devoted audience will buy literally anything you do. He's been cranking out these 10-song, 4-hits-per CDs for so long they're utterly interchangeable, and they all sell in the gazillions. That's not to say he doesn't also do it right sometimes, as on "Home Improvement." But he'd be a lot more likeable if he deigned to break a sweat, or just try something a little different now and again. --John Morthland

George Strait Reviews:
GEORGE NEEDED (HOME) IMPROVEMENT 2 Star Review
2005-01-04 - This CD is without QUESTION his worst CD, and the only song that makes a top FIFTY GS list is "Home Improvement" (Which is actually a top 10 song). I give it two stars for that song and "Don't Let Me Come Over There And Love You". And that is the best I can say about this GS major misfire.

Not His Best Album........ 3 Star Review
2004-04-20 - Now I know that there are alot of Strait fans out there, me being one of them. I've been a fan of his since I was a kid.
But this album here is not one of his best works. George is good when he is George Strait. But unfortunatly, the "Nashville Scene" might have enfluenced George a little bit. The album just doesn't sound like the G.S. stuff you are use to hearing.
"If You Can Do Anything Else", "Don't Make Me Come Over There and Love You", and "Go On" are about the only song's on this album that "make it".

When his music was a little boring 2 Star Review
2004-02-27 - In 2000 Country Music pretty much stunk overall at the time just a few years ago it seemed like country was heading into a very dangerous phase of pop country with bland artists. In September of that year Strait released a typical run of the mill album simply with the boring title of George Strait. This guy is an amazing artist he can put together some of the best albums coming out of Nashville for over 20 years now. When you hear records like Strait from the Heart,Ocean Front Property and Beyond the Blue Neon when you hear this album from 2000 you just want to weap for this great artist. I only like Home Improvement and that last track was nice with its melody and all but the other 8 tracks are as flat as pancakes and so unintresting. In 2000 I was weaping for country music because of how sorry it had become and I was a little devastated when George Strait was beginning to put boring albums like this out but of course he has fully recovered he came back strong with The Road less Traveled in 2001 but even stronger with a perfect album called Honkytonkville in 2003 listen to those records and forget about this one I don't even think George Strait thought this was any good. I remember the radio singles like Go On just stinking so bad. I am glad George Strait has returned to form and does not do an album like this ever again and one more thing George Strait should always TITLE his albums!

'Strait' off the road and in the ditch..his only bad album 1 Star Review
2003-08-14 - My god, George Strait...he;s never even mildly dissapointed me, well, except my fav album of his 'One Step At A Time', has such a mundane song on it the silly 'That's The Breaks'...(haha...and it's on my favourite Strait album...how ironic)

With titles like 'Looking Through My Window Through The Pain' ??!! Owch...what a cheeeesy title. George, what were you thinking? And all of these songs here, minus the fairly happy "Don't Make Me Come Over There And Love You', that's not bad. THis album was probably rushed, or done out of the fact he might be on contract to do an album every nine months...and this was just a mud pie of the group. Boring, musically flat, and silly titles. Thank God for albums like 'Blue Clear Sky', or 'Ocean Front Property'.

Not as bad as you think 3 Star Review
2001-09-13 - Another great album by George Strait the King of country music. If you love George Strait you'll love this one.
