Editorial Review:
While hardly a masterpiece on the order of "Say You'll Be There," the former Ginger Spice's step into the solo arena does an acceptable job of refashioning her into a "grownup" diva. Generally underdeveloped material doesn't help, but the thin-voiced Halliwell acquits herself well enough on some pop-funk numbers and when tweaking the sort of '60s high camp of which Robbie Williams has been so fond. --Rickey Wright
Schizophonic Reviews:
where bad recommendations lead
2009-06-28 - I got "Schizophonic" by Geri Halliwell a few years ago after an internet friend told me it was good (this person liked this album so much they stockpiled copies of it). For the first few years I thought it was good as well. Now I feel this album is really, really bad and dumb all over. Albums like this sink or swim based on the quality of the vocals and the songs. "Schizophonic" fails on both of these counts. For starters, it was apparent to me that Halliwell can't sing. In addition, the songs are just plain bad (except for "Look at me", "Lift Me Up", and "Walkaway", which are barely worth listening to). The worst songs here are "Mi Chico Latino", "You're in a Bubble", and "Let Me Love You". Now this album is in the library where it belongs, and since then I take album recommendations with a grain of salt.
Shattered sound, hah
2009-04-09 - The title if you break it down means shattered sounds something that is very deceiving Ms. Halliwell hit her mark on her first solo outing, and proves that she can hold her own as an artist. "Look at Me" is just wonderful I love the beat and the lryics. "Bag it Up" another excellent track, and "Lift Me Up" is a wonderful pop ballard. But "Mi Chico Latino" is kinda of off mark here and its b-side "G-A-Y Good As You' would have better placed on this album. Over all though this album is classic '90s pop music and an excellent solo album from the ex-Ginger Spice
Fun CD
2008-05-02 - This CD is really a fun great CD. I bought it just after I read Geri's 2nd autobiography and I really like it. The CD is a nice mix of up beat and slower songs. Bag it up is by far the best I think. I think her second album Scream if you wanna go faster is a little better but Im really glad I have this one as well. Geri is a great performer and I would love it if she did another solo project after the tremendous success of the Spice girls reunion.
"Just one tender moment I cannot not find..."
2008-03-22 - Schizophonic by ex-Spice girl Geri Halliwell was a cd I had back in the day. I used to enjoy this album but the novelty wore off and I had to dispose of it. I am not into that type of music anymore and let's face it, Geri cannot sing! Her songwriting was probably her best assest such as Walkaway, Lift Me Up, Bag It Up, and Someone Watching Over Me. Geri was fun to listen to but hey a gal's gotta grow up!
Spicy Fun!!! A Must Have
2006-12-15 - The Spice Girls were an amazing girl group, and though they disbanded and will never recapture that magic on thier own, we must look to the solo spice girls for our dose of spicy pop music. Sadly Geri, Emma, Victoria, Mel B, and Mel C, have all steered somewhat away from that fun pop music they used to make so they can make "serious music" but thank goodness for Geri. Schizophonic is the closest thing to a Spice Girls Record to come from a Solo SPice. Though all there albums are good, this one is fun and catchy and tongue in cheek without trying to be too serious. At Ten tracks the album is short and sweet. Though some tracks are completely forgetable (Someones Watching Over Me) but for the most part everything is campy and cute. Geris voice is harsh but not unpleasent. "Look at me" starts things off on the right tone with trumpets and 60s style swing. "Lift Me Up" is pretty soft rock and that keeps things from getting over obnoxious. And "Mi Chico Latino" adds some latin flavors and is a Standout track. "walkway" is the albums strongest ballads refrencing her departure from the Spice Girls. This album is fun, not incredibly cool, but its unique campyness is refreshing and lighthearted.
STANDOUTS!!!
1. Look at me
2. Lift me up
3. Walkway
4. Mi Chico latino
5. Goodnight Kiss
6. Bag It Up
