Editorial Review:
Fans of Godsmack’s dark, swirling, commanding music will be delighted by the Boston band’s powerful third effort, which mixes arena rock in the vein of an Alice in Chains (in fact, Godsmack takes its name from an AIC song) with the aggression of Pantera. With new drummer Shannon Larkin (formerly of Amen), Godsmack stick with the riff-heavy, layered tunes and sharp, confident bridge-burning lyrics (witness the convincing vitriol of "I F@?king Hate You"). Highlights include Sully Erna’s gut-spewing scream on "Changes," the memorable chorus and commanding assured "I Stand Alone," and the radio-ready "Straight out of Line." The tribal drums and chanting of the instrumental "The Awakening" sets the stage for "Serenity," the final track, which brings Faceless full circle, the acoustic guitars, congas and strings providing a sinuous conclusion to a potent alb! um. --Katherine Turman
Faceless Reviews:
I'm breaking my own vows, knowing I'll go down in flames...
2003-04-24 - I've been hooked on Godsmack ever since I heard their first album. Each one has a slightly different sound to it but all of them sustain quality all the way through - no "album fillers." This long awaited album is no exception, full of great guitar riffs, sexy unique vocals and skilled drum work. I was worried that 'Smack may have lost their edge since the loss of their drummer Tommy but Shannon has possibly even improved their sound. Awesome. A must have for any Godsmack, or infact decent music, fan.
HI INTENSITY
2003-04-17 - I WON'T GO TO MUCH INTO THE ALBUM,BUT ALL I HAVE TO SAY IS IT IS AWESOME HARD ROCK,WITH GREAT RIFFS AND GREAT VOCALS.IF YOU LIKED THE FIRST TWO CD'S,YOU WILL LOVE THIS ONE.THEY GET BETTER WITH EACH ONE.I WOULD LOVE TO SEE GODSMACK AND DISTURBED TOUR TOGETHER.IN MY OPINION THEY ARE THE BEST HARD ROCK GROUPS OUT THERE NOW.(BUT LET'S NOT FORGET ABOUT METALLICA,NEW ALBUM DUE IN JUNE).
