Editorial Review:
Fans of Godsmack’s dark, swirling, commanding music will be delighted by the Boston band’s powerful third effort, which mixes arena rock in the vein of an Alice in Chains (in fact, Godsmack takes its name from an AIC song) with the aggression of Pantera. With new drummer Shannon Larkin (formerly of Amen), Godsmack stick with the riff-heavy, layered tunes and sharp, confident bridge-burning lyrics (witness the convincing vitriol of "I F@?king Hate You"). Highlights include Sully Erna’s gut-spewing scream on "Changes," the memorable chorus and commanding assured "I Stand Alone," and the radio-ready "Straight out of Line." The tribal drums and chanting of the instrumental "The Awakening" sets the stage for "Serenity," the final track, which brings Faceless full circle, the acoustic guitars, congas and strings providing a sinuous conclusion to a potent alb! um. --Katherine Turman

Faceless (Clean) Reviews:
Don't buy this! 1 Star Review
2004-08-31 - Even though I like this band, you shouldn't buy the clean version. If yoiu listen to the edited version of "I F****** Hate You", it just sucks. I own the one with the cuss words, and i'm happy I own that version.
Bottom line: DON'T EVER BUY THIS ABUM EDITED!!!!

Why didn't they use this for torture? 1 Star Review
2004-03-31 - Apparently nobody told Godsmack that new metal is in its dying gasp, which makes them only easier to hate, even new metal innovators Korn have moved on by now. The band is still steeped in riff heavy metal, in the same style as Metallica, Megadeth and Soundgarden, only the band has neither the musical ability or the intellectual stamina to keep up with any of those bands. Frontman Sully Erna, like Creed's Scott Stapp is better at baring his pecs then he is at commenting on society, he tries the same route as James Hetfield, and sometimes he sounds almost as heartfelt, but not nearly as intelligent, the fact is any fifth grader whose read a couple of Curious George books could probably make observations on the same level as Erna. The album has its moments, but these are rare and Erna still sounds like a bad Eddie Vedder parody. In any case the album is (id like to end this review with something completely unoriginal, fitting considering its a Godsmack album) boring.

Love 'Em Or Hate 'Em...They're Baaack! 5 Star Review
2003-07-08 - Depending on your point of view, Godsmack is ...one of the few(if not the only)real hard rock acts left. It's very rare to find a band so loved or villified with no middle ground. And while this album may only be preaching to the converted, it's one hell of a statement. The band moves away some from it's cookie cutter tendencies and ventures at times into almost Pantera-esque territory. It adds a definite punch to their already potent mix of Sully's growls against grinding guitar and pounding rhythms. As a hedge, the band included the hit "I Stand Alone," from The Scorpion King, but the rest of the songs have enough strength of their own. "Changes" one of the standout tracks, incorporates heavy grooves with even an acoustic passage thown in. Elsewhere, their white knuckle approach is very apparent on the spewing "I F***ing Hate You" and Sully's life chronical "Releasing The Demons." "Serenity" the album's acoustic closer recalls Jar Of Flies era AIC with its tribal drums and almost psychedelic feel. Now that Pantera's dead and Metallica's sold out, these guys are on top of the game and this album shows it.

Greatest CD yet... 5 Star Review
2003-04-24 - I'm a rabid Godsmack fan. I have every single Godsmack CD. i pre-ordered Godsmack's "Faceless" and recieved it a day before it's official release. I put it as soon as I got and I wasn't dissapointed one bit. The CD is awsome. It's their best yet, and I can honestly say that I can't help but to listen to it everyday. "Serenity" is a beautiful song. I like all the songs, but my favorites are the ones I can really relate to such as "Re-Align", I F*cking Hate You", "Serenity", and "Straight Out Of Line". I recommend buying it.

.... Review of Faceless 4 Star Review
2003-04-21 - Godsmack latest release "Faceless" debuted at number 1 this week and for good reason. Godsmack usually know for its heavy but rhythm friendly sound has maintained a reputation from its last 2 CD's and does not disappoint with "Faceless". The album shows growth and change in the sound, but nothing too drastic. A sacrifice of some rhythm for a heavier edge is a minor change that is noticeable but not unwelcome. The album's second track "Faceless" is definitely one of the albums high points with the adrenaline taken up a notch, and even a guitar solo...we like it. The fifth track is somewhat familiar being that it was released several months ago, yes "I stand Alone" is also on the CD and is pretty typical of the album, it seems to fit right in. Faceless even has a ballad of sorts, "Serenity", with its relaxed pace and somewhat positive lyrics it is a nice way to wind down the album.<...
