Better Days Reviews: An Absolutely Fantastic Piece... 2006-04-13 - I just have to express my opinion on this song.. since I discovered the Goos 3-4 years ago now, I fell in love with Here Is Gone and it has been at the top of my list of favourites since then, but it's threatening to be eclipsed by this piece of brilliance!
Whoever said that the Goos are lacking passion obviously is totally numb to itthemselves because Better Days is absolutely loaded with passion and soul and there is no way that that can denied.
I too stress the importance that when listening to this song, keep in mind the effects of Hurricane Katrina for which this song has become entwined with. If that is forgotten or not considered, I agree that the song *could* (though still not imo) be considered a bit "schmaltzy", which is why I tell people when they first hear it..
I personally LOVE it
!!! 2006-03-16 - This is absolutely one of the most... dare I say... BEAUTIFUL songs the GGD's have ever put out. Enough said.
A great comeback! 2006-03-13 - The Goos were definitely one of my favorite bands of the '90s, and its been some time since 'Gutterflower' in 2003. I did enjoy 'here is gone' on that album.
It's nice to see a great single after those 2 years. Better Days has a great depth to it, and deep, passionate lyrics. It's about a bad time and they're hoping for 'just a chance to find better days.'
It is ballad-ish, and comes close to the good ol' acoustic ballads 'Name' (1995) and 'Iris' (1997).
Better Days is a great comeback and proves that Johnny and the rest of the Goos have lasting power. They've been around since 1988...
Can't wait for their next CD - it would restore their popularity like it was in the 1990s.
Love the Goos 2006-03-11 - I want to first start off by saying that this song is beautiful, deep, and meaningful. Some of the other reviewers don't seem to grasp that. This song was used as kind of an anthem after the Hurricane Katrina disaster, and in my opinion inspires hope in people rather than sounding like a "funeral dirge". As for them having "lost their rocker souls and settled for being banal", nothing they ever put out will be soulless or boring. As for the comment that they are "too old and now care more about sales instead of where they came from", I just don't agree with that at all. No one ever gets anywhere by staying the same, and you have to know where you came from in order to know where you're going. I love the way the Goos are growing, and everything John Rzeznik writes just gets better and better (which can't be easy). These guys are great!!! Definitely buy "Better Days" or anything else they release.
ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ 2006-02-18 - For a group that exudes such passion in their music (LIVE FROM BUFFALO anybody?) this song is like a funeral dirge. I can only hope that they haven't released the full album because they are trying to rekindle the passion that has made them the fan-favorite that they are.
Take your time guys - let's get your BEST work.
