Editorial Review:
Despite the piercings and spiky hairdos of Good Charlotte frontmen Joel and Benji Madden, the filth and the fury of punk are not in evidence on The Young and the Hopeless. Rather, Good Charlotte lean toward the sunny power pop favored by the lighter Huntingdon Beach, California, outfits. Nevertheless, with the title track and "The Anthem" ("I'm just a minor threat"), the band appeals directly to high-school outsiders. Relationship problems are delved into in "Wondering" and "Say Anything," and they even find space to explore comic horror with "My Bloody Valentine." So they're not as intense or enraged as the hardcore likes of Black Flag or even Linkin Park. But the undeniably strong melodies this bunch comes up with have plenty of appeal on their own terms. --Dominic Wills
The Young and Hopeless Reviews:
GOOD STUFF
2009-06-25 - i think this cd is great ....i like the old good charlotte more than the newer version they've become ...great cd
HAS TO BE THE WORST BLACK METAL ALBUM OF ALL TIME
2009-04-23 - Ok kids stop telling me this is BLACK METAL this is FREAKIN NOT Black Metal. AC/DC are BLACK METAL. Seriously if the devil heard this he would Torture all you emo kids. Seriously dont tell me this is BLACK METAL.
Umm... Good Album, My review+a little ranting on the side
2008-01-08 - Why does everyone seem to utterly despise this band, even though a lot of their songs have made it to the top twenty on charts (think "Dance Floor Anthem")
To me, it makes absolutely no sense! Personally, i think this band is totally awesome! Of course it's not really punk, it's more of a psuedo-punk/pop/sort of angst genre of its own. This album has got to be one of my favorites because of songs like the "The Anthem", "Lifestyles of the Rich & Famous", "Girls & Boys", "Hold On", and "The Young and Hopeless".
This is a really good band for fans of Paramore, and stuff like that...
So I borrowed this between summer and fall of '05...
2007-12-21 - And it was decent. Just not great.
The singles ALL stand out, HOLD ON being my favorite song by them EVER!!!
It's very uplifting and it's a midtempo that gives hope. I know there were TONS of kids who listened to this & decided to keep on one more day and to say, "F*** You" to giving up! I respect that about Good Charlotte; once in a while, they are good at making a hit that means something. Not always does this happen though.
There are a few throwaway tracks but overall, this CD is rather listen-able.
I don't necessarily want to buy it or anything but if someone else had it I'd surely jump at the chance to hear it once again!
