Phase One: Celebrity Take Down Reviews:
Nothing special... we've seen it all before. 2 Star Review
2003-06-04 - There's plainly just not enough material on this DVD. Yes, the menu is really cool but it is confusing. Since nothing is labeled, you just search around Gorillaz' house and highlight random objects and watch videos. They have the four music videos for "Clint Eastwood," "19-2000," "Tomorrow Comes Today," and "Rock da' House."

Those videos are all good, but honestly this DVD only gives you abount one hour of veiwing entertainment. The rest is filler of lame skits and the videos before they were filled in with color so they'e just pencil sketches.

A little disappointed 3 Star Review
2003-02-26 - Being a huge Gorillaz fan, I was a little disappointed with their DVD release.

The upside- It's great having a way to access all the Gorillaz music videos, even their planned-yet-never-made video for "5/4" which is essentially storyboards synced to the music. The animated skits are cool and the illustrated booklet has a lot of great artwork, not to mention notes on how the "band" was formed

The downside- While there's also live show clips, I quickly lost interest in it. The interview included wasn't as informative as I had hoped. The aforementioned animated skits aren't even a minute in length each. Several of the music videos have storyboarded and animatic versions, which don't serve much of a purpose. A lot of it just seems to be filler. But the main problem is the navigation. It would have been nice to access clips and videos from the usual DVD menus. Instead it all uses icons and I had to constantly look at the map included with the DVD to figure out where I wanted to go. It also would have been nice to have all the music videos and animated skits grouped together instead of spread out to the different areas.

Celebrity Take Down is still a good Gorillaz DVD to own, but I can't help but feel it was only put out to sate Gorillaz fans and nothing more.

2-D,Murdoc,Noodle,& Russel do it again! 5 Star Review
2003-01-21 - Well I am a very, very big Gorillaz fan,and for me,this was a declaration of creativity for the band. The concept of Gorillaz are four cartoon characters brought to life by Jamie Hewlett (Tank Girl Comics) in association with Damon Albarn (Blur Frontman). 2-D is a whizzed out 24-year-old-migrane pill addict,Murdoc is a self-proclaimed,Black Sabbath loving, 36-year old Satanist,Russel is a 26-year old hip hopper who has the ghost of his buddy Del inside him,and Noodle is an 11 year old Japanese girl who shipped herself in a crate to the boys in response to their ad for a guitarist in the NME.
The title which is vey apply titled in fact,Contains all of their work to date, including a special documentary that was only aired in England during Christmas of 2001,and some sketchy work on the 5/4 video, which was later replaced with 19/2000. There are credits on the DVD,and are included in the "Bonus Secret Section" of the DVD,which will show up sometimes when you put it in and sometimes not. If not then you have to program your player to 8 if you really wanna see them.
The work is hidden all over Kong Studios,(Their home and studio) on the DVD,and fans will know if they are a regular visitor to the website. This s a MUST for all Gorilaz fans, and I should know. I am one!
