Editorial Review:
In 1965, the Grateful Dead came to life in the heart of San Francisco’s hippie counterculture. Founding members Jerry Garcia, Bob Weir, Ron “Pigpen” McKernan, Phil Lesh, and Bill Kreutzmann (and soon after, Mickey Hart) created a unique blend of improvisational rock, folk, blues, and psychedelia, and the Dead went on to become one of the greatest jam bands of all time, releasing more than ten studio albums and touring constantly for legions of Deadheads. In Grateful Dead 365, five decades of intimate portraits, candid backstage shots, and colorful performance images take readers on the band’s remarkable journey from the mid-sixties to the twenty-first century. Accompanied by the band’s distinctive graphics, these photographs capture memorable moments, including the band’s trip to the Great Pyramid of Egypt; scenes with colorful, trippy Deadheads; and tributes to Garcia. Written by award-winning music writer, Holly George-Warren, Grateful Dead 365 celebrates the evolution of one of the world’s most beloved bands. Grateful Dead 365 Reviews: 365 ways to a complete Dead History 2009-04-13 - Of all the books I have on the Dead. This is a great picture book illustrating the Deads long History. There are many images that have never been published before. I find it refreshing and compelling for all the Dead Heads who want to see the History and not read it.
I Hate the Grateful Dead 2009-01-06 - I have never liked the Grateful Dead. I don't think they belong in any consideration of classic rock and roll groups. It doesn't matter how many Deadheads play me cuts and try to impress me with supposedly deep lyrics. Other than their vocals, musicianship, and lyrics, I'm okay with them. That being said, I got this as a Christmas present for an unabashed Grateful Dead fan and they were ecstatic. To each his own. If I could be objective about the group, I probably would have given this a higher rating. I have bought other books in the 365 series, Beatles, Stones, Comic Books, Wisdom, and they've all been great. So, if you're a wanna be hippy, what's that, a whippy?, then this is the book for you. Roll Away the Dew. Yeah, right.
Product Great; Shipping terrible 2008-12-20 - Love the book but Amazon didn't package it well. It arrived with the box half open and the book's spine broken. Terrible!! I'll shop at my local borders from now on....
impressing! 2008-10-19 - Impressing! A detailed bookreview of the Dead. Some pictures seen before but a most for every Deadfan!
