Green Day Reviews: Collector's Item 2006-07-12 - If you are looking for a deep, information-filled read, don't buy this book. The only reason I bought this book was it is a collector's item. There really isn't anything that I didn't already know; pretty much all of the information and pictures in this book are easy to find on the internet these days.
The main disappointment to me was that I've seen magazine articles with more text than this book; the majority of it being filled with pictures of the band (I read this in less than one hour).
There are two editions of this book; the 1995 printing and the 1996 printing, which has a few extra pages on Insomniac and an extended discography. The first edition has a live shot of Billie on the cover, while the second edition has the whole band gracing the cover.
With all that said, this WAS the first Green Day biography ever published, with Green Day only being mainstream for a couple of years, and the discography includes lots of bootlegs, which I must get my hands on someday.
The book measures 23cm x 30cm
The Blurb:
Green Day has been heralded as the leader of the new punk revolution ever since inciting the biggest mud fight to hit the music industry at Woodstock II. Their multiplatinum album Dookie shoved both grunge and pop out of the way to top the charts, and lead singer Billie Joe has proven that an obnoxious attitude and blue hair does get you somewhere.
But punk is not shiny and new. This book traces Green Day's history from its kickoff at the Bay Area punk haven known as the Gilman Street Project through its first two albums, 39/Smooth and Kerplunk. Here's the story of how Billie Joe Armstrong, bassist Mike Dirnt, and drummer Tré Cool emerged from the underground punk circuit to revitalize the "do-it-yourself" music scene.
An alright book 2002-11-12 - This book is okay if you are just getting into Green Day and want to know more about them. But the information can all easily be found on internet sites. If you really want to know a lot about Green Day just go on Yahoo and search around. You'll find more that what's in this book. The pictures are good though.
Greenday (picture) Book 2001-12-28 - This "book" wasn't filled with too much information. Although it was filled with many cool pictures, it needs more info for the price it costs.
Other bands will come and go, but Greenday's here forever! 2000-06-27 - A seemingly thin read, the book touches on the history of the best band that ever lived. Some great facts and pictures which I had enlarged and are on all my walls. Billie Joe Armstrong, a genious, Tre Cool, a brilliant drummer, and Mike Dirnt, an equally good bass guitarist. The book tells you of the lives of these masterminds. Greenday right now is not the most popular in mainstream music, but I'm hoping for them to be number one again with their new album coming out in November. Buy this book if you want to now the brilliance behind the music. I just wish someone would write something more recent as this only ends in about '95/'96. As a fellow musician, I really think Greenday are the tops!
I'm raving like a mad cow 1999-07-26 - It's a great biography of the Green Day kids, so far, with incredible pictures that show personality and realism within the band. A great book for Green Day fans but can also show others the life of important stitches within the fabric of rock n' roll.
