Great mix of covers and original
2004-02-13 - Hank was in great form when he recorded this album, which is typical of his music of the eighties - rooted in country but mixed with rock'n'roll and a touch of the blues. On this album, there is a nice mix of ballads and up-tempo rockers, half of them original songs with the other half being well chosen covers.

The original songs are the title track (a brilliant autobiographical song), Woman on the run, Queen of my heart (both brilliant bluesy ballads), She had me (a great rocker) and Now I know how George feels (a great song about the music business).

The covers are The air that I breathe (first recorded by Phil Everly in 1973 but a major international hit for the Hollies in 1974 - Hank gives this song a bluesy edge), Midnight rider (Allman brothers), Lovesick blues (one of his father's classic song, here featuring Leon Redbone), It just don't get it no more (Tony Joe White) and the classic Orange blossom special.

Hank recorded many great albums in the eighties and this is among my favorites. If you like his style, you'll love this album.
