  • Editorial Review:
For teenager Les Anderson (Corey Haim),the two most important things in life are getting his driver's license and getting together with the hottest girl in high school (Heather Graham in one of her first film roles). But when Les fails the exam, he 'borrows' the family's prized '73 Cadillac for his big date. An innocent girl. A harmless dirve. What could possibly go wrong? Try a fearless best friend (Corey Feldman) with an insane plan, a high school hottie with too much to drink, angry drag racers, crazed militants, a police roadblock, a crash course in car theft, a very angry father (Richard Masur), a very, very pregnant mother and much more!

Description of License to Drive (Special Edition):
The brief 1980s mania surrounding "the Coreys" peaked with License to Drive, a modest but surprisingly still enjoyable adventure comedy. Les (Corey Haim, Lucas) has a chance to date his dream girl, Mercedes (Heather Graham, Boogie Nights, in her first significant movie role)--but he's just failed his driving exam. Motivated by a mixture of pride and hormones, he steals his grandfather's Cadillac and heads out on the town with Mercedes for a night that swiftly becomes an escalating series of disasters, made worse by the foolhardy antics of Les' best friend Dean (Corey Feldman, Stand by Me). Despite some egregious '80s fashion disasters (Graham gets the worst of them), License to Drive holds up surprisingly well--it's no work of genius, but it is a solidly made and entertaining teen comedy that's more coherent than most. The depiction of parent-teen relations is fairly honest and particularly well-played by Richard Masur (Risky Business) and Carol Kane (In the Soup) as the parents. The DVD includes a very funny and rambunctious audio commentary track by the screenwriter and director, as well as interviews with the grown-up Coreys. A must-have for fans of '80s nostalgia. --Bret Fetzer

License to Drive (Special Edition) Reviews:
    No thanks dad, I already have a Mercedes ; - ). 5 Star Review
2008-05-17 - Corey Haim and Corey Feldman star in this totally hilarious and great 80's teen comedy flick, this was a favorite movie of mine when I was a kid and it doesn't get better than this. I decided to check this out since I was feeling abit nostalgic and I was surprised that the film turned out to be just as good as I remembered, both the Corey's managed to pull off surprisingly good performances and they both rocked (which is not saying much) and its also nice to see a young Heather Graham in her first role ever I think although I'm not sure but she still looks gorgeous, anyway the film's about a teenager named Les Anderson played by Corey Haim who decides to sneak out for a date with a hot chick named Mercedes (Heather Graham) in his grandfather's Cadillac, see the only problem is that he failed his written driver's test and had to lie to his parents and friends but that doesn't matter since he doesn't want to miss his date with Mercedes so alot of hilarious stuff happens including the scene where the drunk guy steals his car while listening to Grandpa's top ten lol this scene had me laughing so hard, oh and watch out for an early role from Judge Phillip Banks from the Fresh Price Of Bell Air and another scene where Les Anderson (Corey Haim) picks up his friends Dean (Corey Feldman) and Charles and go to a drive-in diner called Archie's and they end up in a huge fight with some older guys, hilarious stuff!. This is all typical 80's silliness and was a bit absurd but it was still great and very entertaining. Well what else can I say? I loved it and thought it was a cult classic, make sure you watch this as a double feature with The Lost Boys its more fun that way.

Feldman keeps the movie honest. 3 Star Review
2008-04-19 - Caught this one on HBO back when I was a teenager and of course it cracked me up. The humor is totally in your face and you just got to kind of enjoy it. But "LTD" is no great shakes and could have been insufferable.

Corey Haim is the straight man and let me tell you this kind can't act. His character has the lamest development (none) and his big adventure is nothing but a procession of gags. Thank God Feldman shows up to breathe some life into the film and rescue it from falling apart under its cliche-ridden self. The guy has charisma and an honesty about him that I really like. Goonies are good 'nuff 4 me.

So, in the end, License to Drive is mild teen fare that deals with a major hurdle for the kiddies in a sympathetic way, replete with requisite super soft-core T&A and foul language. It narrowly escapes joining the ash-heap of impotent 80s teen fare that we grew up with.

Attack of the Coreys! 5 Star Review
2008-02-25 - This movie is the Coreys at their best! The main character (Corey Haim) fails his driver's test, but decides to go out with boys anyway, stealing his parent's car. A wild night leads him to his friends, the girl he is in love with, and a whole lot of trouble and fun! This movie is great for reliving those classic 80's that I know I miss so much! I highly recommend it to anyone who is an 80's fan and/or a fan of the Coreys!

    *Great Movie!* 5 Star Review
2007-11-07 - A great 80's movie.A must see for fans of 80's movies.Anyone who is getting ready to get there license should see this.I really liked it.

One of the funniest movie ever..STILL! 5 Star Review
2007-02-17 - I watched this movie back in the 80's when I was a kid, and here it is 25 years later and this movie is still the funniest movie of all time. Surprisingly, I actually like most (I won't say all) of the movies the 2 Corey's did in the 80's, but I would say that "The Lost Boys" is my absolute favorite semi-horror flick, and "License to Drive" is my favorite comedy.
