Disney Channel starlet-turned-movie actress Hilary Duff proves a legitimate contender in her side career as a singer on Hilary Duff: The Concert--The Girl Can Rock. Backed by an ace band of hired guns and immersed in edgy pop arrangements more interesting than her studio recordings, Duff sounds like a worthy centerpiece in The Girl Can Rock's smart orchestration. The title tune kicks things off with an attention-getting backbeat and big (but not bombastic) rock & roll sound, while "Little Voice" comes pretty darn close to approximating the old, critically lauded, power pop sound of the late '70s. "Anywhere but Here" could easily pass as a tune from the Pretenders' songbook, and Duff makes the most out of its emotional counterpoints and minor chord changes. Even at the show's dippiest ("Love Just Is"), musical settings are always tasteful and evocative. Not that good
2007-12-03 - I was so excited when I saw this sitting on the shelf at the store. So I bought it and was very disappointed. During this point in her career, Hilary lip synced her songs. This was probably a good thing because this DVD integrates two separate concerts into one which means all of a sudden she's wearing one outfit and the next thing you know, she's in a completely different outfit. Had this show been sung live, that would have been difficult to do. It is kind of fun to watch, but I may as well listen to her CD.

2007-02-27 - This DVD is excellent. Hilary Duff puts on a good, entertaining show for her fans. The band is good and the music sounds good. Hilary's voice is just fine. Most notably, the concert is simply a lot of good, wholesome fun. It's a welcome break at times from "serious" or angry or controversial stuff. Hilary obviously enjoys performing for her fans and has fun on stage. She interacts well with the band members; they appear as part of a friendly team. She acknowledges her fans. The rest of the DVD, the stuff besides the concert, is also very good. There is a clip of Hilary on a show with Ryan Seacrest, clips of making videos, clips of Hilary out and about, including surfing and shopping, and footage of behind the scenes at the concerts, including interviews of band members. Throughout, Hilary comes off as a very pleasant and likeable person. Not like some other performers who are jerks, or drunks, or pervs, etc. A must-have for Hilary fans and a worthwhile view for everyone else too.

2007-02-09 - This DVD rocks. Awesome concert. Hilary looked very hot in it. It makes you want to sing and dance to it. I love Hilary. She is my favorite singer and actress. Cool music videos, and more. This DVD is worth all the money. If you love Hilary get this DVD if you don't have it already. Hilary rocked in it as well. The songs were written and performed very well. She has such great taste in music. I've been watching this every day since I got it. That's how great it is. Hilary I love you alot and keep singing. You have such a beautiful voice. Keep up the good work. If you ever get a chance to travel, COME TO UTAH!.
