Editorial Review:
Celebrate and have fun this season with Hilary Duff as she sings her favorite holiday songs with a pop twist! This must-have holiday album is packed with 11 songs by Hilary Duff, including duets with Lil' Romeo and Christina Milian. With holiday tunes by Hilary, you will wish it was Christmas year-round!
Description of Santa Claus Lane:
Hilary Duff, the winsome star of the Disney Channel's Lizzie McGuire, makes her singing debut with a rather frothy mix of original songs and old holiday chestnuts--only these chestnuts aren't roasting on an open fire, they're sugarcoated, like everything else on this pop-light album. Duff, who looks like Jessica Simpson, and sings like Mandy Moore, sticks close to the tried-and-true versions of Santa Claus is Coming To Town," "Jingle Bell Rock, " and Sleigh Ride," adding little to the holiday music canon. The album only perks up when Duff's guests appear: Christina Milian pushes Duff to greater heights on the crisp and rhythmically innovative "I Heard Santa on the Radio," and Lil' Romeo adds some spiky dynamics and humor as he raps through "Tell Me a Story (About the Night Before)." --Jaan Uhelszki

Great mix of originals and familiar songs
2009-09-08 - To be honest, Hilary Duff isn't really my type of singer, but I was tempted to buy this album, which doesn't contain any of the really obvious songs, because of the track listing, and I was pleasantly surprised at what I heard. Yes, there are a few familiar songs among the originals, but apart from Santa Claus is coming to town, none of them have been recorded anything like as often as some songs that you'll find on many Christmas albums. The other familiar songs (Jingle bell rock, Sleigh ride, Last Christmas, Wonderful Christmastime) are easy enough to find elsewhere and I've got other versions of each of them, but I appreciate Hilary's decision to record these songs instead of the really obvious songs such as Winter wonderland and White Christmas. Much as I love them, I don't need them to be on every Christmas album I buy. The arrangements of the familiar songs are distinctive and contemporary, so some people might not approve, but I think that Hilary, her producers and musicians have done a great job.
Apart from those familiar songs, there are six originals, all co-written by Charlie Midnight, one of the album's producers, these being What Christmas should be, Santa Claus Lane, I heard Santa on the radio, When the snow comes down in Tinseltown, Tell me a story and Same old Christmas. Like the familiar songs, most of them are upbeat, joyful songs about the fun of Christmas. Religious songs are conspicuous by their absence, but that's fine by me. I have some Christmas albums that focus exclusively on the spiritual side and others that cover all aspects of Christmas, so the occasional album that avoids religion completely is welcome.
I'm still not sure if I'll ever buy any more of Hilary's music, but I do enjoy listening to this very distinctive Christmas album.
Thank God I'm Jewish!
2009-02-10 - You poor gentiles. So this is the kind of stuff you listen to at Christmas?
FEH! I'd rather listen to those barking dogs singing "Jingle Bells".
If I wasn't born a Jew this caterwauling would have made me convert.
EXCELLENT MUSIC, DAMAGED CASE.
2008-03-07 - Due to computer problems my review is late and
I was unable to file a complaint.
The Hillary Duff Santa Claus Lane CD is excellent music.
But the CD jewel case was received damaged and craacked.
I replaced it with another jewel case.
It appears to have been damaged prior to shipping.
In the future your quality control needs more attention.

Great Christmas CD
2007-12-12 - What a great CD! Our kids (ages 2,3 &4) have been playing it on their CD player for months now even before Christmas. My 2 year old damaged it while attempting to put it in the player so we bought a second copy of it. Very upbeat Top 40 versions of some classic Christmas songs with some new tunes that are sure to be played often.
