Description of P.S. I Love You:
For those who believe true love lasts beyond this physical plane, P.S. I Love You is a jewel in the romantic-movie crown. With elements of Ghost, Heaven Can Wait, and My Life, the film is an unabashed valentine to the notion of lasting (everlasting?) love. Hilary Swank is Holly, a deeply happy lass married to the most impossibly adorable Irishman on the planet, Gerry (Gerard Butler). When an illness takes him from her, Holly spirals into depression. Then, as if from beyond the grave, communications, gifts, and remembrances from Gerry begin to appear--gestures he'd planned knowing his death was coming. The "communications" with her dead husband could threatened to keep Holly in past, yet they begin to pave a path into her future.

Swank, not a traditional romantic actress, is quite moving as Holly, whose grief and confusion is palpable. Butler will win new continents of fans, largely female, as the yummiest honey one could wish for. Special kudos to the supporting cast, including Lisa Kudrow as a Holly pal, and James Marsters and Kathy Bates, always breaths of fresh air onscreen. Under the sure hand of director-writer Richard LaGravenese, P.S. I Love You is touching, sad (have tissues on hand), and heartbreakingly lovely. --A.T. Hurley

    P.S. I Love You Reviews:
    Pretty Good 4 Star Review
2008-09-01 - Hilary lights up the screen and so does her co-star. Good acting jobs including a co-starring role from the great Kathy Bates. (Remember "Misery??)

Good story, and a great movie to watch with my wife Debbie.

Jeffrey Dean Morgan is also extremely good in a supporting role. Like the guitar playing :)

    dissappointing 2 Star Review
2008-08-25 - I personally did not care for this movie as it seems to be really slow. This movie would be good for someone who has lost a wife or husband, not so much for just an average viewer. Hillary Swank was not able in my opinion to bring the emotion to the film that was needed.

Love lives on 5 Star Review
2008-08-24 - Having been widowed, I found this movie not only very realistic but very uplifting. Holly finds starting over after the death of her husband easier because of Jerry's last act of love for his wife. He knew how to help her heal and begin a new life because he knew her best.

Grief is accurately depicted as crushing without bogging the film down in sentiment or floods of tears. This film is proof that our loved ones remain with us, and life goes on.

Uninventive and boring 2 Star Review
2008-08-23 - The plot line seemed interesting but I could not buy the characters. Most of the emotion in this movie was so contrived that it took away from the value of the movie.

I think this movie would have benefit from lower budget actors and a slight script re-write that could (hopefully) result in more empathy from an audience. Instead, the movie attempted to shoe horn actors and actresses with huge screen presence into very limited character roles.

    Lovely film 5 Star Review
2008-08-20 - Didn't get to see this film at the cinema so was pleased to be able to watch it on dvd. have actually watched it twice and would watch again as its a great film.
