Editorial Review:
Explicit Version. Raw Footage is the 2008 album by rapper Ice Cube. This is Ice Cube's eighth studio LP. The first single, "Gangsta Rap Made Me Do It", has been released with a music video appearing on his MySpace page. Ice Cube has revealed that the album is more political than his previous release Laugh Now, Cry Later. The second single is "Do Ya Thang" He remains one of the most visible West Coast rappers, having helped originate Gangsta Rap. He is particularly well-known for his incendiary Raps on political topics, social relations and ethnic discrimination, particularly the mistreatment of African Americans.

Raw Footage Reviews:
One of the original besgt 5 Star Review
2009-02-28 - This album took me for a suprise. I admit that I overlooked the album several times before because I was judging from the cover. I mean..look at the album cover art.. it really seemed like the content would be something more like trying to bring back west coast gangsta rap, but in actuality it was completely the opposite. Forget the hypocrisy of his earlier albums from back in the day, nowadays it seems like he's on a different path-and a whole new level. The beats are nice but it's the content of his lyrics-you really gotta take the time to listen to whats he's saying, it might suprise you. Ice Cube definitely shows why he's one of the original best!

The Best Ice Cube Album Ever!!!! 5 Star Review
2009-01-19 - It seems like Ice Cube came right back to his roots after he came back from hollywood. I like the social as well as political messages in this album. Ice Cube says he does gangster rap, and he's right, but he also has a message as a black man, as a rap star, as a muslim, and as a hollywood actor. The messages in this album can't be denied. If I had to vouch for the best rap album of the year or just a rap album that has meaning, it would be this one. His best hit on this album has to be Stand Tall. I loved the message in this one! The other song that caught my attention is Cold Places. The messages that Cube gives are phenominal! The rest of the album is full of gems like; Hood Mentality, It Takes A Nation, Tommorrow, Get Money, Spend Money No Money, and Gangsta Rap Made Me Do It. He takes the West Side to a whole new level with Get Used To It. Even with the 1 or 2 songs dedicated to bragging rights (Jack In The Box, Here He Come, Do Your Thang and Got My Locs On), this album made the cut as best rap album of the year. We needed Ice Cube to come back like he did to let us know that west coast rap is here to stay, that rap STILL has a message and that he is definately the king! I just caught the video for Gangsta Rap Made Me Do It on YouTube! This song went from a banger to a blitz! Ice cube tells many stories in this saga! Check it out if you dare! It makes this album stupendous! It's a damn shame the public can't pick rap album of the year!!!

Cube's Smartest Album In Over A Decade (600th Review!) (Rating: 8 out of 10- -4.0 stars) 4 Star Review
2009-01-19 - With all the young acts coming into the rap game, leave it to the veterans to hang in and drop some knowledge. That's exactly what 39 year old Ice Cube did with his latest album Raw Footage, and has been since 1990 with AmeriKKKa's Most Wanted. Having a long, and well crafted discography, as well as hit singles, it would be hard to miss such an innovative artist. He could have easily taken the easy route and made an album to cater to younger newer fans with club ready tracks, but chose not to. He makes an album that is positive and uplifting for any listener to enjoy and also listen deeply, something that is definitely needed today.

Tracks like "Got My Loc's On" featuring Young Jeezy, and "Here He Comes" featuring Dough Boy (I heard he was related to Cube in a magazine), shows Cube's demanding lyrical strength in his lyrics. He was well known to never hold anything back in a song, and shows it on "It Takes A Nation", and "Gangsta Rap Made Me Do It". The latter song shows how Cube defends gangsta rap and how everyone wants to blame it for the problems in the communities. On the intro to "Thank God" Cube says to an audience of his fans "...if they didn't create these conditions, I wouldn't have [nothing] to rap about", and dammit he is right about that. My favorite song is "Why Me?" is when Cube questions those who murdered those for no reason what so ever. Other great songs are "Stand Tall", "Take Me Away", and "Cold Places". Each song showcases Cube's "Pyroclastic" flow.

The only downsides to all this is that he may get too preachy throughout the album for some listeners. I personally don't see a problem with it, and think that more young listeners should hear this album (especially those who look to rap artists as role models). A few songs that aren't as good as "Jack In The Box", and "Get Money, Spend Money, No Money". Those are the only few missteps here on the album, but everything else is great.

Depending on where you purchased this album at, you get three bonus tracks. "Don't Make Me Hurt Ya Feelings", "Crack Baby?", and a live version of "Why We Thugs" with W.C. doing the ad-libs. A great addition to those who love this album.

The overall album is excellent, especially from an old school vet from the days of NWA. Cube keeps himself relevant though his hard hitting lyrics throughout most of his career (some may agree that he was falling off in the late 90's and early 00's), not to mention being a well known actor, screenwriter, and producer. Cube makes it fully aware of his listeners that he is well paid off and isn't forced to make another album, but he does it for the love of the music and to keep his fans satisfied (as well as bring in new ones- not a bad idea). Some may say that Nas is the best rapper currently in hip hop. I personally give my vote to Ice Cube because of his longevity in the game (not trying taking away anything from Nas).

If this is an independent release, Cube (and all those involved) deserves every dime made from this album. I seriously wish this album goes at least platinum. Peace.

Great Album 5 Star Review
2008-12-27 - This is a great cd. To all that say ice cube doesn't have it in him any more is dead wrong. all the tracks are great.

Welcome to the Gangster Rap Revival 5 Star Review
2008-12-18 - I have been a fan of Ice Cube since he first exploded onto the scene with NWA in the 1980's. His vocals were very socially progressive and laced with the anger that appealed to gangster rap fans.

His new opus harkens back to some of than same sentiment but is updated for the new century. Ice Cube no longer gets stuck in the "Don Mega" trappings that many of his early CD's from the late nineties and early 2000's fell into. He once again comments on society with insightful lyrics laid over heavy baselines.

If you were a fan of his early works like Predator or Death Certificate and than this would be a good CD for purchase or download.
