Editorial Review:
Il Divo are back refreshed, reinvigorated and ready to remind the world in 2008 just what they have been missing. Four of the greatest operatic voices in the world come together again to create their unique signature sound to re-interpret popular romantic songs. The Promise features 12 songs once again produced by Steve Mac (Il Divo, The Christmas Collection, Ancora, Siempre). The Promise is Il Divo's first release in two years. Il Divo have become an international sensation bringing the sound of opera to the world of popular music since their debut in 2002. Il Divo has sold over 22 million albums worldwide.
The Promise Reviews:
Da best
2009-12-20 - Incredible!! It was so good After I buoght one for my mom, I had to get one for me.
A well-balanced and enjoyable album
2009-12-19 - Il Divo's The Promise is definitely my favorite album from the group. The songs have a very good balance between the four singers. Their voices blend together flawlessly throughout the entire album, something that has been a bit more absent in their past albums. The differing styles of each song are also for the most part excellently varied. Although a few songs about half-way through the CD started to sound similar, I think it's more of an order problem.
The selection of songs is good and the orchestral arrangements are also very complementary to the group (the cello solo in the "Adagio" intro is a good example of this). Although Amazing Grace, the last song, is the only one sung in English, having all the others in foreign languages really didn't bother me one bit. My three favorite songs from The Promise are definitely "Hallelujah," "Angelina," and "Amazing Grace."
"The Power of Love," "La Promessa," "Angelina," and "Adagio," are probably the more intense songs of the album, although most all of the songs on the album end with a sweeping crescendo. Making an excellent contrast to the intensity, "Hallelujah," "L'alba Del Mondo," "Enamorado," "The Winner Takes it All," "La Luna," "She," and "Amazing Grace" are more towards the quiet side, giving depth to the listening experience.
Overall, it is a well-balanced, well-arranged production.
Just beautiful!
2009-12-19 - After seeing their video singing "Amazing Grace" I HAD to buy this. The other songs are lovely and "Hallelujah" has become another favorite.
Happy customer
2009-12-02 - Bought this as a gift because it has the song, Amazing Grace on it, my mother-in-law's favorite. Came in time and in good condition.
Awesome
2009-12-01 - I have all of Il Divo's CD's plus DVD of concert at the Greek. Sometimes an artist comes out with a first CD that is great and then I find myself disappointed with future ones. Not so with this group. I found that I enjoyed this CD even more than previous ones. I had the good fortune of seeing them live in concert this Spring and they are even more dynamic in person than on DVD or CD. I would definitely recommend any of their CD's but most especially this one.
