Editorial Review:
Demonic beings longing to be human put Judas' life at stake to possess the unique soul within him. The incubus Lenniel, has sworn to protect and defeat all who threaten the man he loves: the shy puritan Judas. But outside dangers are not all that threaten his human beloved. A painful past haunts Judas, preventing him from trusting anyone, especially Lenniel. This is an enemy the incubus is not sure how to defeat. How does one fight a crippling force that exists within another's heart?
Incubus volume 2 (v. 2) Reviews:
Excellent read for BL fans
2008-08-23 - This is a nice change from 'cute womanly uke and strong silent seme', with both characters obviously male and cutesy moments usually coming from Lenny. Anyway, volume 2 delves more into Judas' past so it's rather heavy on the angst, but bearable and reasonable angst.
wordy
2008-05-09 - In this second, much longer volume the author digs further in Judas' life.
Unfortunately, instead of adventures, duels, action, we are given redundant explanations on Judas' inner conflicts, their reasons, their consequences, the harm they do on his life... did I make myself bored?
This is not characterization, it is just misuse of words.
Even the introduction of a new relevant character, Lenniel's sister, instead of adding shine is just an excuse to add more words and, hear hear, moral platitudes.
This is a disappointment: Ms Yayoi's drawing are interesting and the story would have great potential (therefore the two stars) but I really cannot say I cannot wait for the next volume...
Liked this Sequel
2008-04-04 - Incubus 2 is a continuation from Volume 1's cliffhanger. It's a think volume with a lot of very wordy sequences (did I say a lot?). We see several flashbacks of Judas and some of his childhood. The volume is filled with scenes of Judas's internal struggle. Again there are a dream sequences and there are several intimate encounters. It also goes to prove that you can have a very erotic scene without actually doing the deed (or have anything flying). ^_^ This volume ends with Lenniel beginning to explain how he knows Judas. It somewhat leaves you hanging because a lot is not explained.
I'm a groupie of Yayoi Neko
2008-03-02 - Neko's artwork is beautiful - masculine men with muscles and angst. The story is indepth and nicely complex with secrets and history gradually revealed. The seme is very, very seme while still dealing with guilt and angst over his still confused uke.
Neko's storytelling and artistic skills just increase with each volume (#3 has gone to her publisher just days ago - I'm eager for the next volume). With her abilities, she should be one of the big names in yaoi - I got hooked on her work when I first met her at Yaoicon.
Buy this! It has drama, violence, swords, demons, true love, angst, and hot sex.
No girlie boys allowed... or girlie girls.
2008-01-06 - Yaoi, as a genre, has quite the history of being indistinguishable from standard straight romances visually. Not the case with Yayoi Neko's Incubus. The characters are far from generic, and explore the range of masculine beauty. The story of Incubus continues in this second volume, which is filled with both more humour and angst than the last. Oh, yes. And good, solid, hot, steamy, well... you did say yaoi, didn't you?
In short, I cannot recommend this series enough, and this volume is delightful. It's rare to find a good plot, good humour, and good smex in one single volume. Neko's distinct style is a welcome break from bishonen/biseinen of recent publishing and hearkens more to Kodaka Kazuma's shonen styled work.
Thumbs up by a million!
