Editorial Review:
A rare case in which a band actually gets better with time, this California hard rock quintet seems to have finally grown into its skin on its fifth album. Casting off the dated slap-bass funk and pointless nu-metal angst of its early years (well, mostly), Light Grenades is not only a worthwhile follow-up to 2003's A Crow Left of the Murder--the expansive disc many fans consider Incubus's best--but shows improvements all around. Singer Brandon Boyd has learned to temper the words he plucks out of the thesaurus with genuine heartbreak, while the rest of the group proves it can do a lot more than offer up nonstop grooves. --Aidin Vaziri
Light Grenades Reviews:
MAYBE FAME HAS RUINED THIS BAND
2009-06-19 - It's almost like these guys gave up and decided to cash paychecks instead of writing inspired music... I am really bummed out about this release. I hope they get a kick in the head from all the bad reviews and do some REAL song writing instead of going through the motions.
The single was just okay, but the rest of this CD is really bad. Maybe chicks dig it, but I have to pass. Hope for a better release next time...
didnt blow it
2009-05-26 - Incubus, when they stick a little bit to there feel good formula is hard to beat. True to form, this album puts you on the feel good trip without to many politics. Graet album
Great music, depressing lyrics
2009-02-13 - Incubus is always great musically. But Brandon seriously needs to find a girl that will treat him right. I get depressed by his lyrics on this CD. Seems like he has resigned himself to suffer the torture of a selfish woman.
What happened to Incubus?!
2009-02-11 - I received "Make Yourself" and "Morning View" for Xmas presents and I was blown away the first time I listened to "Make Yourself." I never knew that Incubus was *that* awesome. I listened to those two albums almost every day. So I was excited when I was finally able to buy "S.C.I.E.N.C.E", "A Crow..." and "Light Grenades" this past week. "S.C.I.E.N.C.E" blew me away even more than "Make Yourself" so I had high hopes for the others. "A Crow..." was ok, but not good. And "Light Grenades" is plain terrible. I must've gotten a different album than everyone else because I simply canNOT understand how people could think this is a great album. The melodies are sappy pop song melodies, not rock melodies. The intelligent lyrics with social commentary and self-awareness are gone in favor of lame love song lyrics. Brandon Boyd's voice doesn't even sound like the same one from the earlier works. Hearing "Light Grenades" has just about ruined Incubus for me because I can't forget what they've become while listening to the good albums. I wish I could erase the memory of "Light Grenades" from my mind.
what happened to Incubus?
2009-02-07 - i love Incubus. Having said that, this album is very disappointing. i listened to it once and that was enough. I never expected Incubus was capable of making a bad album until i heard Light Grenades. I wouldnt recommend this to anyone who likes all the other Incubus albums.
