Run to the Hills: The Official Biography of Iron Maiden Reviews:
Very good book but not excellent 4 Star Review
2003-09-09 - I am a casual fan of Iron Maiden and I think that they're one of the best metal bands of all time without the benefit of scoring huge hit singles in America although they had a string of Top 20 hits in England and I could not believe that they sold over 50 million records and when I first heard of Iron Maiden I didn't think that they were that big because I never heard them on the radio but today I still hear their songs on 2 Digital stations, one is Metal and the other is Power Rock.

Although I wished that they focused a bit more on the band's glory days than the beginning of their career and I've been a fan of long time producer Martin Birch since I've started listening Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow in 1999 and I cannot believe that he worked on a string of classic albums like Deep Purple, Rainbow, Whitesnake, Black Sabbath and MSG and the members of Iron Maiden were influenced by him, that is one of the coolest things that I've ever heard.

If you love hard rock or heavy metal music, then you'll love Iron Maiden, you're not a huge Iron Maiden fan until you have this book and the backgrounds of Steve Harris, Dave Murray, Adrian Smith, Paul Dianno, Bruce Dickinson, Nicko McBrain, Martin Birch, Janick Gers and Blaze Bayley are also worth the price for this book alone.

Amazing as Rio 5 Star Review
2003-03-18 - This book was amazing it really told about all their shows and what it was like during their childhood and how the band memebers got to meet each other although he didnt tell about how the band was a failure with that guy Blaze Bailey.... The good part was that they got bruce back.I highley recommend this book to eny one who like maiden or eny one who wants to know them.

Great book 3 Star Review
2002-08-23 - THis book is fantastic. It's one of the best rock biographies ever written. And, listen carefully: it's not a picture biography: it's really a book!!

What almost ruined the whole hard work by Mick Wall, in my humble opinion, is that he had not the courage to tell, at the end of the book, how bad Maiden was going with Blaze on vocals. He finished the book talking about how strong and optmistic they were with their new singer, how the new album (VIRTUAL XI) was so fantastic, etc, etc. But the final answer we alll know... Blaze fired and Bruce brought back.

Other than this, it's a pleasure to read it.

A new edition is available. 4 Star Review
2002-07-20 - As rock biographies go, this is a good one. The Maiden story is presented with a great concern for accuracy and fairness and Sanctuary has recently published an updated version that is available via ironmaiden.com. If there is a complaint it is that the pre-Bruce Dickinson years are over-represented, while the first Dickinson period is given much less detailed attention. Overall, though, Maiden fans will not want to be without this one.

An interesting read 4 Star Review
2002-02-28 - A must have for Maiden fans, Wall does a good job analyzing the bands ventures over the years. From the dirty pubs of London's East End to the gigantic arenas in the US, Wall covers ever detail in informative fashion.

The most common complaint about this book is that Wall spends too much time focusing on the band's "rough-n-tumble" East End beginnings and not enough time with the glory years of the mid-late 80's. It would have been nice if Wall gave equal coverage to every album, instead of creating mammoth sections for some (such as Number of the Beast) and skimping over others (i.e., the short piece on Somewhere In Time)
