Purgatory/Maiden Japan Reviews: Caught Somewhere in Time 2008-08-06 - The Maiden Japan EP was released in August 1981 - recorded in Japan earlier in the year - and was the vinyl swan song for lead vocalist Paul Di'Anno.
Geared to the Japanese marketplace, it was a four-song 45 rpm there, though a five-song set was issued in the United States and other nations. This expanded edition of nearly an entire set was a fan club promotion recorded from the Nakano Sun Plaza Hall in Tokyo.
A rare item, the concert captures the band in regal form and delivering a high-octane performance. It is an excellent coda for the 1978-1981 band, which set the stage for an incredible run as international arena rock icons in the 1980s.
Rare, Expensive, But Worth All Cost 2006-09-16 - Many Maiden fans remember the original Maiden Japan ep from back in the early 80's. Even then it was hard to come by. The ep only had five tracks running in this order:
1 Running Free
2 Remember tomorrow
3 Wrathchild
4 Killers
5 Innocent Exile
The cd issue is very nice, remastered and expanded to 17 tracks!
1 Wrathchild
2 Purgatory
3 Sanctuary
4 Remember Tomorrow
5 Another Life (w. drum solo)
6 Genghis Khan
7 Killers
8 innocent Exile
9 Twilight Zone
10 Strange World
11 Murders in the Rue Morgue
12 Phantom of the Opera
13 Iron Maiden
14 Running Free
15 Transylvania (w. guitar solo)
16 Drifter
17 I've Got The Fire
Wow! What a collection of early Maiden...all performed by the original band! I still prefer the Beast Over Hammersmith set, but only because I lean towards Bruce. But Maiden Japan is totally worthwhile, even if it costs too much.
