Editorial Review:
Jagged Edge’s fourth album may serve as a harbinger of an early-’90s revival. Back in the day, R&B harmony groups barely dabbled in hip-hop, with only minimal rapping heard on even, say, Boyz II Men’s uptempo hits. Likewise on Hard, which makes strategic nods toward a hero of JE’s Atlanta hometown (OutKast’s Big Boi, who guests on "Car Show") and the currently reborn dancehall craze ("Girls Gone Wild" features toasting by the fabulously named Major Damage) but mostly just sticks to showcasing the quartet. In fact, the title track doesn’t boast about the guys’ relative street toughness, instead noting a nearly lost opportunity for love. Most of the tracks here fit into 2 or 3 slots: happiness in love, love lost, or clubbin’. That, as well, seems like an echo of an era passed. --Rickey Wright
Hard Reviews:
Very Romantic and about all Relationships
2009-11-27 - "Hard" is one of my most favorite Jagged Edge CD's I have collected mostly all of them and have even bought more copies when they start to skip or wear out from me playing them so much. I am was so happy to see them when they came out with the Jagged Edge CD with "Good Luck Charm" I stood in line for two hours at FYE waiting for them to come and autograph their new CD. And I am so waiting for them to come out with a new CD and also a return trip to CT. We love you in Hartford, CT and you need to come see your fans real soon. All the songs on the "Hard" CD are so beautiful and show their awesome talent. This group is by far one of the best R & B groups in my book. And their are many R & B groups but they don't have the same sound as JE theirs is unique.
This is a Hard album by J.E.
2009-02-16 - Well, if you have read any of my other music reviews, most of the music I like is music I can ride to. Well, J.E. does not disappoint. The smooth lyrics, deep bass lines and crisp highs make the ride down I-20 to I-75 real nice. Plus, the ladies seem to like J.E. (just read the reviews) There are several "Jams" on this cd. My most favorite is "What's it like?" This song is on point! I keep that one on repeat and the whole, entire cd is on constant rotation in both the ride and the cd player in the crib. Anyway, many of the songs on the cd are good, of course some of them are not as hott as others but, that's the price to pay when dealing with cd purchases. This is fine because the good far outweighs the bad when it comes to J.E. This is an older cd (as of this post) but if you are trying to decide if you should pick it up, you are trippin' because you need to have already been at the store and picked this one up! Make sure you pick up the cd, some roses, some Grey Goose and some scented candles. Throw in your J.E. cd, make your lady a nice meal, pour some drank, throw on that "What's it like" track and enjoy the night cause IT WILL BE ON FROM THERE! YMMV .... NEOSOUL06
was a great gift for hubby
2008-04-30 - I found exactly what he asked for and for a cheaper price than in the store. The quality was just as good if not better.
Jagged Edge- Hard (2.5 stars)
2007-09-24 - This was a mistake. JE can do so much better. Hard is not an absoulutely horrible album but, they went to thug with it. To many of the songs are thug, and to many street anthems. Those type of songs are ok sometimes, but when the majority of the album is those type, is when it gets old real fast. But there are some good tracks to. The trend of having one big single that causes big album sales continues on this album with the massive single "Walked Outta Heaven" which is actually a good song. But there was not even a second single. I am sure they released one but i dont think it even charted. But "Walked Outta Heaven" alone is a great love song. But other than that the only other good song i can think of on this album is "Girls Gone Wild" which is pretty much "Where The Party At? Part 2" but better, and "Tryna Find The Words" which has a sick beat. But other than those three songs, there are a couple of decent tracks but the rest is just filler. I will never deny JE's talent, cause they have lots of it, and i am the first to admit that i am a huge JE fan. The problem is though, that since Jagged Era, they have not released anything truly special. They have not released an album that i can listen to over and over again. So far they have put out one great album, one good album, one average album, and one below average album being this one. JE can do alot better than this.

Ah, Them Jagged Boys...
2006-10-02 - How crazy is it that the same group can challenge their own record for one of, if not THE best RnB album from a group in possibly a decade or so (J.E. Heartbreak)?
This album, even by their own standards, is AMAZING. Ladies, what do we do when we hear the opening harp-pics of 'Walked Outta Heaven'? Yeah, I know, I can't write it here! But the answer is even quoted in the 'They Ain't J.E. Remix'..."Them baby-makin ballads got 'em..." well you know the rest!
Um, lemme see, a bad song on this album...'Shady Girl'; literally the only song I do not love. But hello? On the flip side, we have 'Tryna Be Your Man', 'I Don't Wanna' my personal favourite! 'In Private', and of course the title track 'Hard'.
My respect for them increased ten-fold after seeing them live, and believe me when I tell you that it IS possible for them to sound better than they do on record. Their time-keeping needs ALOT of work - but I can promise you that once they get on stage you begrudgingly forgive them for keeping you waiting so long!!!
I don't think it's possible to find a word that accurately describes this brilliant album, but I WILL second an earlier comment. It is CRIMINAL that this group aren't bigger than they are. With all the talent-devoid, insipid [...] littering the charts these days, it makes ABSOLUTELY NO SENSE that they aren't the leaders of today's new school. CRIMINAL.
