Harvesters Reviews:
A very good grade "Z" movie
2007-09-01 - This had a very low budget, but the story line is just twisted enough to be interesting. Not sure why the leader of the criminal gang was a lesbian Gulf War vet, but okay. Two of the absolute dumbest marshalls ever, too. Still, more than enough twists and turns of plot and the acting is just good enough to be decent. As a bonus, Jaime Kalman is absolutely gorgeous as the "beauty queen". Guys can watch it for her, if nothing else. I do recommend this movie, though. Not worth 5 stars, but definitely worth 4.
Harvesters... not even good enough to be a B-movie.
2005-01-11 - CRAPPIEST MOVIE EVER! Ok... so that's what I was looking for in the rental place... but man... I didn't expect that. Sure it should be rated higher because there is gratuitous nudity, but even gratuitous nudity needs to seem motivated somehow. But nothing in the script was motivated at all. 15-30 minutes could have also been edited out of the movie to make it tolerable... but at points there are blocks 15 minutes on end with no dialogue. The geography of the setting is impossible to decipher, due to a lack of establishing shots. Although hollywood film makers break all sorts of rules while filming, they still try to have good scripts most of the time... and coherent editing techniques, even in horror films. As for the other reviews I doubt that someone connected with the film didn't write them, because it has a face that no one but a mother could love. However, for B-movie makers, the MAKING OF segment on the DVD was educational, since the gore makeup was actually quite good. The movie was suspenseLESS and after an hour just became annoying. At one point they even used EXTREMELY cheap CGI to put in a driving car... which could have been left out of the establishing shot since it had no influence on the story line whatsoever. Terrible... F.
A Bogus Crop
2002-04-25 - Harvesters had a chance from the start to be a pretty good film,
but it flopped. Maybe because of direction, maybe because of differences of ideas, whatever.
One thing that messed up this film was the silly CGI/visual effects. Watch for them with the guy driving his car by the screen and the other one when they are driving down the dirt road to the "Harvester" house.
The movie did have some good scenes and the acting was ok
rent it first see what you think,I own it and i'm not impressed
with it.
Great Horror Movie Fun!
2002-03-28 - If you enjoyed TEXAS CHAINSAW and NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD, you'll love HARVESTERS! Leanna Chamish, who plays the beautiful and deadly Betty Peelman, is remarkable. You might call her "the real Mrs. Cleaver". The rest of the cast is great, too. Excellent production values and an interesting story line provide chills in the great drive-in horror movie tradition. You'll want to settle down with a big bowl of popcorn and turn out the lights before spinning this terrific DVD. Enjoy!
Better than the average B-Movie
2002-02-28 - Harvesters is way above the average B-movie. I've seen a lot of low-budget stuff, but this one really stands out. It's got good acting, nice special effects, many gruesome death scenes, and a kick-butt ending. The DVD quality is outstanding, with good picture image and great sound quality. It also has an informative "making of" special feature that I found very entertaining. There are two trailers included, as well. This movie isn't for the kids (language and nudity), but for horror and suspense fans, it's sure to please! I recommend it.
