Editorial Review:
This hilarious box set includes 3 DVDs: Unleashed, I Might Need Security and the Never-Before-Released DVD, Foxx in the Foxxhole (Jamie Foxx's HBO Special). A must-have collector's item for all Jamie Foxx fans!
Description of Jamie Foxx - The Foxx Boxx Collection (Unleashed/I Might Need Security/Straight from the Foxxhole):
The Foxx Boxx Collection offers not only some topnotch stand-up comedy, but also the rare opportunity to see a rising star at three very different points in his career. In Straight from the Foxxhole (from 1993), Jamie Foxx is still raw, still refining his comedy, but also hungry for success and throwing himself into his act with full abandon. His physical and vocal talents are in full display with his breakout character Wanda from the sketch comedy show In Living Color, his impersonations of different famous men telling a woman to leave after sex (including James Brown, Prince, and Bill Cosby), and a routine about a paraplegic getting into fights and being knocked out of his wheelchair (you may have guessed by now that Foxx doesn't shy away from controversial subjects). Tweaking black celebrities is a favorite theme; in Unleashed, he imagines a Biggie-Tupac-style feud between Morgan Freeman and Cosby, skewers OJ Simpson and Mike Tyson, and depicts Bill Clinton as "the closest thing to a black president we're going to get." Unleashed was shot in 1997, when Foxx's movie career was just budding; Foxx is a comic juggernaut at this point with the audience eating out of his hand. By the time I Might Need Security was shot in 2002, his movie career had taken off. Foxx clearly still enjoys doing stand-up, but it doesn't consume him the way it did in the previous concerts. Make no mistake, there's still plenty of humor, fueled all the more by Foxx's fresh stardom. He gets a lot of mileage from a squabble with LL Cool J on the set of Any Given Sunday and finding himself uncomfortably attracted to Prince. (Warning: Many of Foxx's routines are extremely sexually explicit, which may jolt viewers who only know him as an actor.) --Bret Fetzer
Jamie Foxx - The Foxx Boxx Collection (Unleashed/I Might Need Security/Straight from the Foxxhole) Reviews:
Utterly disappointing
2007-02-26 - I tried hard hard, but couldn't find a single DVD that I enjoyed in this collection. What a waste of money! Jamie is a better actor and singer than he is a comedian. I might have laughed8 times through all three discs- not good enough. Perhaps I expected too much from Jamie. He just isn't witty enough. He has that schoolground bully type of humour. You can just picture him being the bloke that took the mickey out of the poor kids with low self-esteem. Don't get me wrong, I am no prude and I love irreverence and political incorrectnes, but I feel like Jamie tries too hard.I don't think that comedy comes naturally to him.
This box set is definitely worth a miss.
Scratch
2006-02-25 - The package's general condition is good. However, one of the movies is scratched. The first day i played it, it froze on one part, and now it does the same thing every time. I'm hoping I can fix it with some alcohol or something.
The Forgotten King Of Comedy
2005-08-17 - Jamie Foxx is the best comedian on the planet. He keeps you on the edge of your seat with his comedic style, not to mention his unbelievable singing voice. The Texas native has finally been brought to the world and this DVD proves it. I can't wait until he drops another album!
i just want my jamie!!
2005-05-03 - the show was ok but the man looked good! DANMM JAMIE!! WHEW!
Finally on DVD!!!
2005-03-07 - Straight from the Foxxhole is definitely one that needs to be in the DVD collection. I've been waiting 12 years to own a copy of this. From the previous review, it sounded like the DVD came from the street bootlegs of chinatown. It is not as bad as described. There was about 15 seconds on the DVD where poor "tracking" was visible on the video, but the sound was unaffected. The clarity of the video, overall, was good. If you're a fan of Jaime Foxx, then this set is a must have...you don't need a review to tell you to buy this set!!!!
