  • Editorial Review:
Jamie Foxx and Colin Farrell go deep undercover in the explosive, action-packed Miami Vice Unrated Director's Edition! When detectives Ricardo Tubbs (Foxx) and Sonny Crockett (Farrell) are asked to investigate the brutal murders of two federal agents, they find themselves pulled into the lethal world of drug traffickers. From the acclaimed director of Heat and Collateral comes an exclusive motion picture experience you won't want to miss!

Description of Miami Vice (Unrated Director's Edition) [Blu-ray]:
Bearing absolutely no resemblance to the 1980s TV series that helped to propel Michael Mann into big-time filmmaking, Miami Vice is the kind of serious, and seriously stylish, crime drama that Mann does better than anyone else. As written by Mann himself, this undercover sting thriller doesn't reach the peak intensity of Mann's 1995 classic Heat, and it lacks the tight, nail-biting suspense of Collateral, but that doesn't mean it doesn't occasionally pack a wallop. As Miami detectives Sonny Crockett and Ricardo Tubbs (respectively), Colin Farrell and Jamie Foxx don't have to do much but mumble their plot-thickening dialogue and look ultra-cool in the casual cop attire, and their partnership is rather lifeless on screen (perhaps owing to the fact that this was a troubled production, with an actual shooting that occurred during filming, and Foxx's refusal to risk his life on dangerous locations in South America). But once Mann shifts into high gear with a plot to foil a powerful drug kingpin (Luis Tosar) and his ruthless middle-man (John Ortiz), Vice pays off with the kind of smart, realistic action that Mann's fans have come to expect. With Chinese superstar Gong Li as Crockett's love interest on the wrong side of the law, Miami Vice covers territory that's a little too familiar, and one suspects Mann's screenplay might've been punched up with a polish or two. Still, this is an above-average crime thriller that demands and rewards close attention, with a climactic shoot-out that's pure Mann, worthy of the brooding drama that precedes it. --Jeff Shannon

Not worth a Friday Night 3 Star Review
2008-09-08 - The original series was the only must see Friday Night show worth staying home for. The series was captivating and inspiring in many ways. The music and fashion were as much a part of the show as the plot was. Sadly the movie does not live up to this. I felt the movie storyline stayed true to the original characters and the plot would have made for a solid episode, but there was nothing special about the movie. The movie gets by on its name and the longing of the watcher to go back to and relive the 80's. This movie is worth a Sunday afternoon not a Friday night.

"In To Deep" 5 Star Review
2008-09-07 - Think of this movie as a return to greatness. A Toast of excellence if you will. I saw this as the greatest Miami Vice episode ever.
The 2 Stars, Sonny Crockett (Colin Ferrel) and Ricardo Tubbs (Jamie Foxx) are 2 Miami Dade officers who go Undercover to bust a huge drug operation.
The cast is spectacular, and the script is Top-Notch.
Now, Im the kind of person who is used to my action movies having a bunch of action through-out. And this does, dont get me wrong, but this has a different brand of action, Delivering Suspense and tension in every scene, Following up to a spectacular Shoot-out. It had me saying: "Wow, I want to see this again".

Where's the Hi Def? 3 Star Review
2008-08-29 - I enjoyed this movie. I didn't think that I would since I watched the TV series regularly. I didn't think that it would compare and I don't think that the director tried to compare it and that is why it worked. I purchased the blu-ray edition of this movie. What I do not understand is why they would purposefull have so much graininess in this film. It goes beyond graininess in some shots to down right horrid. This is definitely not the movie that you want to play to show off your hi-def television and blu-ray to your neighbors. The poor video quality does nothing for the movie but distract and irritate me. I should have stuck with the standard DVD in this case as there is very little difference between it and the blu-ray.
