Editorial Review:
When their only daughter Blair leaves the family nest, Luther and Nora Krank (Tim Allen and Jamie Lee Curtis) decide to book an island cruise to beat the yuletide blues and just skip the holidays. But their decision to boycott tradition has the whole neighborhood in an uproar, and when Blair callson Christmas Eve to announce a surprise visit with her new fiancée, the Kranks have just twelve hours to perform a miracle and pull themselves and their neighbors together to throw the best celebration ever.
Description of Christmas with the Kranks:
Slapstick humor gets a full-body workout in Christmas with the Kranks. Critics were unanimous in their derision, and John Grisham must have gnashed his teeth over what studio-boss-turned-director Joe Roth did to his bestselling novel Skipping Christmas, to which this broad-stroked comedy bears little or no resemblance. The title characters are played by Tim Allen and Jamie Lee Curtis, who decide to skip Christmas because their daughter's in Peru with the Peace Corps. Thus begins a rabid program of enforced conformity when their neighbors (led by Dan Aykroyd) coerce the Kranks into changing their holiday attitude--a change that comes easily when the daughter announces she'll be home for Christmas after all. Imagine if a suburban lynch mob said "Have a Merry Christmas or we'll kill you," and you'll get some idea of what spending Christmas with the Kranks is really like. And if you laughed at the frozen cat, you're probably on Santa's "naughty" list. --Jeff Shannon
Christmas with the Kranks Reviews:
Funny, Cute and sweet!
2008-12-03 -
I think any person can enjoy a Tim Allen movie.
A good family classic.
Check it out!
Funny, funny movie!
2008-11-29 - I loved the book Skipping Christmas by John Grisham and I don't know why they changed title for movie because I thought that great myself. The Kranks are alone this Christmas and decide to take off to a sunnier clime. It's hilarious watching them trying to squirm their way out of hanging decorations (their street is full of them and people can't believe they won't put them up like everyone else). They are kept busy trying to get their suntans started ahead of time and shopping for summer like clothes (while it is snowing outside). Then lo and behold the daughter decides to come home for Christmas after all and they have no decorations up and no Christmas tree and no food. There is a scramble by them and their neighbors to get everything in place before the daughter gets there. Loved the book, loved the movie!
Great if you think Christmas is about bullying
2008-11-26 - The movie is about a middle aged couple who decide to 'skip Christmas' and go on a cruise.
When their neighbours find out the couple is relentlessly bullied and harrassed.
It is disgusting, I hate seeing people being bullied.
The movie has a supposed 'happy' ending, because they give in to their neighbours' demands and the neightbours reward their submission with 'kindness' BLARG.
I would've enjoyed the ending immensly if it included scenes with a U-Haul truck because they were moving away from their hideous (and very nasy) neighbours.
Krank is a good name for these people
2008-11-25 - After watching this movie (I would have quit or hit fast forward but my husband was watching), all I could say was "That was about 90 minutes of my life that I will never get back. I think my IQ is a little lower now." While they tried to make a touching moment at the end, it was so lost in the rest of this mixed up, outrageous movie that it didn't matter. Even though the whole thing was ridiculous, the part at the end where Tim Allen is still upset because he didn't get his trip - even though his daughter came home for Christmas and the whole neighborhood (like that would happen these days) came together just for this family made me wish someone would just slap him. This movie made me "kranky".
Christmas with The Kranks
2008-11-08 - I got this film for a whole penny. A national video chain was holding a great sale of movies for a penny and a dollar on Thanksgiving day. I viewed this movie before buying this dvd and I enjoyed the film. I watched it a few years later and I do not feel the same way, its still an enjoyable movie though. Tim Allen and Jamie Lee Curtis skip Christmas for a year and everyone has a fit over it. Talk about respecting peoples privacy. Dan Akyroyd leds the neighborhood and trys to get them to understand why they'd do this. Its a great idea ruined by bad acting. If you enjoy films like Miracle on 34th Street, A Christmas Carol (various ones), Scrooged, Christmas Story, Home Alone to name a few then this one has a good idea but poorly executed. Not going be an annual viewing for any families around the world during Christmas.
