Gus Was a Friendly Ghost Reviews:
The First in a Great Series 5 Star Review
2009-07-21 - This book appears to be the first in the Gus series. Gus lives in an old summer house belonging to the Scotts (Mr. & Mrs. Scott and their twins Sammy and Susie). Gus likes to bang and clank, and the Scotts love to say "That's our ghost" although the Scotts don't really believe in ghosts.

Gus grows lonely in the winter time, however, and when he discovers crotchety old mouse, he quickly invites him to come stay in the house. Gus, being the friendly ghost he is, bends over backwards to accomodate mouse who is always too busy to help because "he's attending to one matter or another," and all is well until the Scotts return for the summer.

The Gus books have a formulaic quality in that Gus is very mild mannered until some conflict or another occurs, and this book is no exception.

The formula works well, and all is resolved and happy in the end, of course. Nonetheless, part of the thrill is mouse's naughty behavior and Gus's stand which renders the foul-tempered mouse "meek and timid."

My kids love this book, and it's really a fun read, and I've read it quite a few times now. I think I've even memorized quite a bit of it.

It's really a shame it's out of print, but anyone who's discovered and loves Gus the Ghost will not be disappointed in "Gus was a Friendly Ghost."

Great kid's book! 5 Star Review

Gus Was A Friendly Ghost 5 Star Review
2003-03-08 - I like this book because it was a good story and interesting. This story is about a ghost named Gus that is friendly. The lives in an abandon house that no one lives, but a family lives in the house during summer. Their name is the Scott family, with Mr and Mrs. Scott and theirs children Susie and Sammy. This family isn't afraid of ghost or believes in them, so they like going to the house. During the winters the Scotts go back to their own house. Gus is always lonely without them there because he always amuses the family by rattling and clanking in the attic. One day Gus goes out and finds Mouse, who is very cold because its winter. Gus asks Mouse back to the house and spend some time with him. They go back to the house and Mouse is cold, so with Gus's power he makes a fire. Mouse is hungry and Gus isn't because ghost don't get hungry, so with Gus's power, he makes Mouse a cheese sandwich. The next day the Scotts come back to the house and they don't like mice. Read the book to find out what happens to Mouse and the Scotts.
