Editorial Review:
It's tough trying to beat the 1934 version of the popular adventure-romance story, starring Leslie Howard as the 18th-century British hero who poses as a fop in London society but runs a secret mission to rescue the doomed in Robespierre's Paris. But this 1982 television version, starring Anthony Andrews (Under the Volcano) as the Pimpernel and Jane Seymour as his beloved but estranged wife, is quite a treat. Andrews and Seymour expertly capture the essence of a relationship suffering from misunderstandings and elusive passion, and there is plenty of crackle to the action sequences. Clive Donner (What's New, Pussycat?) brings some strong cinematic qualities to this television presentation. --Tom Keogh

2009-12-19 - This movie is an all time favorite for myself, my children and many friends. We've watched it over and over. Our old copy was worn and needed replacing. It has romance, mystery, drama, comedy, and great acting.
Great way to complete your collection
2009-10-28 - This is really only a rather old TV movie. But saying so badly undervalues an undisputed classic. The casting is superb. The staging is beautiful, with abundant views of locations that at least look completely authentic. The only instance where the producers might have had to skimp, due to budget, was in the guillotine executions in the grand plaza of Paris. But the mood of terror and outrage is still there. And to finally have this on a DVD is a joy, after decades of watching poorly copied videotapes made from off-the-air broadcasts.

2009-10-16 - This is a great flick. The acting is superb. The story revolves around the history of the French Revolution. The story is very cleverly written, with humor and passion, and a beautiful love story. I highly recommend this movie. I have already watched it twice, and will watch it again sometime. It's well worth seeing over. You catch some of the things you may have missed the first time.

2009-10-09 - I purchased this DVD because I only want to own classic movies in my library. I searched everywhere for it, prior to going to Amazon.com, but could not find it anywhere. I knew that it was an excellent movie, and wanted it for my collection. It takes place during the French Revolution, and is filled with intrigue, mystery and romance. If any of those subjects are interesting to you, I'm sure you'll enjoy this movie. Amazon.com also listed several other versions of the same movie, which are all probably excellent as well, but since I was familiar with this version, and knew that I liked Jane Seymour and Anthony Andrews, it was a win-win for me.

One of the most entertaining and fantastic movies ever made! I bought this years ago when my children were very young (only available in VHS). This tape had been played over & over again & we (including my children) have introduced this wonderful film to all their friends & family over the years. Frequently we recite to each other some of the most entertaining and humorous lines..."Sink me". This is a MUST SEE movie... It includes: swashbuckling, political, history, intrigue, masquerading, history, fun, and huge laughter! Do yourself a big favor, don't miss this movie, you won't regret it I promise.
