The Velvet Rope Reviews:
Her last great album to date.
2005-02-25 - As a major Janet fan, "The Velvet Rope" to me was the last great album that Janet has released to date. A majority of the succeeding releases catered to the bottom of the barrel of the commercial dreck. But not on here. On this CD, Janet showcased a much more of a growing maturity and greater personal mood on this CD. Although many portray it as sad and down, I strongly disagree. While nothing like RN or Control, it is better than it's two following albums AFY and DJ and better than even the Janet album. Together again is a classic. Highly recommended.
AMAZING! Janet's most personal album.
2003-12-22 - How can you start off a review of anything by the incredible and incomparable Janet Jackson!!?? Janet is just simply stunning. Her work is always extremely thought out and beautiful. The Velvet Rope is Janet's most personal album. Dealing with issues such as hate, HIV/AIDS, domestic violence, ignorance, love, acceptance and self respect, Janet has created a masterpiece. I'm a huge huge huge (not literally lol) fan of Janet and this album along with All For You are my top favorite albums by such a talented woman. This is a must have CD for any fan of pop, r&B, dance and funk. I'd say the standout track of the album would be title track opening the album up for listeners for a sneak peak of what's ahead in the CD. Simply, the song is about needing to feel special and accepting yourself for who you are. Everyone is beautiful in Janet's eyes, and she makes that clear in this touching album. The Japanese edition of The Velvet Rope contains a bonus track not available on any other version entitled, "God's Stepchild" which is a beautiful song about being loved by God. It is, however, available on the "Down In The Delta" soundtrack. I've read a lot of fans saying that this album replaces the hidden track, "Can't Be Stopped" but they are all wrong. The Japanese edition still contains the hidden bonus track, "Can't Be Stopped". "God's Stepchild" isn't replacing anything, it's just an amazing addition to this superb album. If you don't own the Velvet Rope, I strongly suggest buying the Japanese edition as it seems "complete" compared to the other international versions. JANET JACKSON FOREVER! HAHA, I LOVE YOU JANET!
going inside Janet's Velvet Rope is slammin'
2002-05-05 - this is one of the best Janet albums ever!!!!!!!!!! This is one smashing album! I've got the u.k edition with 'Can't Be Stopped' as the bonus track. But I heard 'God's Stepchild on MTV a biography of her or something so I looked and looked for this special album and I bout it as soon as I saw it. I didn't car how much it was I payed it and it is worth it. God's Stepchild' is probably one of the best songs of her career bside'Rhtheym Nation. If ' I love this one and is deffently worth bying!!!
Great CD
2001-12-09 - The US version of this CD was wonderful, with a track listing that is long, but very listenable. There aren't really any songs that need to be skipped. If you have the US version, and you like/love it, then go ahead and get this one; if you're still needing to get a Velvet Rope, then this one is a great choice- either buyer should be delighted by the extra track.
The Velvet Rope
2000-08-12 - The Velvet Rope is one of Janet's best albums to date. The album deals with personal issues such as acceptance, specialness, as well as world issues such as homophobia and the hate it causes, AIDS, domestic abuse and more. This is a painful dark album, you can tell Janet lived through this. But all through all there is a message, to feel special because we are all special. This album version from Japan also includes a bonus track not available on the US version of The Velvet Rope, a song called God's Stepchild which is worth the price. Very beautiful music here.
