  • Editorial Review:
Usually it might seem a tad unfair to begin a review by referring to the director's missis. But then the missis in question wouldn't usually be Madonna--a woman whose ability to reinvent herself several times before breakfast seems in marked contrast to that of hubby Guy Ritchie. Certainly, this follow-up to the filmmaker's breakthrough film--the high-energy, expletive-strewn cockney-gangster movie Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels--hardly breaks new ground being, well, another high-energy, expletive-strewn cockney-gangster movie. OK, so there are some differences. This time around our low-rent hoodlums are battling over dodgy fights and stolen diamonds rather than dodgy card games and stolen drugs. There has been some minor reshuffling of the cast too, with Sting and Dexter Fletcher making way for the more bankable Benicio Del Toro and Brad Pitt, the latter pretty much stealing the whole shebang as an incomprehensible Irish gypsy. And, sure, people who really, really liked Lock, Stock--or have the memory of a goldfish--will really, really like this. The suspicion lingers, however, that if the director doesn't do something very different next time around then his career may prove to be considerably shorter than that of his missis. --Clark Collis

    Snatch. [Region 2] Reviews:
    movies 4 Star Review
2009-12-05 - View one of Brad Pitt's best performances.
Guy Ritchie teams with Brad Pitt and Jason Statham
for a thoroughly entertaining film. It has all the
elements of a very fun film.

Blu Ray - A Strong Improvement 4 Star Review
2009-12-03 - Snatch is one of my all time favorite films. He took the brilliant creativity and character development of Lock Stock and used a huge budget to make a dazzling film. Too bad his magic was lost on subsequent films. That notwithstanding, the Blu Ray is great. Its a strong, but not huge, improvement over the original. The video quality is very good, but much of Snatch was filmed in such a manner that aspects of the Blu Ray quality are unattainable (gritty scenes, overcast scenes (it is Britain), etc.). However, I am impressed. I would recommend, though, that you be a fairly devoted Snatch fan to justify upgrading your copy to Blu Ray.

Love this movie! 5 Star Review
2009-12-02 - I recently saw this movie on cable even though it has been out for a couple of years. I enjoyed it so much that I knew I had to add it to my personal collection because it kept me in stitches. I am so glad I did!

Not all the Pikey has been subtitled 5 Star Review
    2009-12-01 - Buy this movie, don't wait.

That aside, one of the coolest features of the Blu Ray version here are the "Pikey" subtitles. Finally, almost all of the gibberish from Brad and the lads has been translated. Almost. The most famous of the Pikey scenes, during the dogs and hare race, is not fully subtitled. Lemme help: "Now look, she wants the Heki 2-roof lights, side by side french furniture and the scarlet cushions with the matching hatchback covers. Oh and boys, she's terrible partial to the periwinkle blue."

    Buy this movie. Don't wait.

Around the mulberry bush... 4 Star Review
2009-10-27 - I didn't know Brad Pitt had it in him!! This movie is a merry-go-round of laughter going toe- to -toe with your common sense. I still thought it was funny!
