The folks at Pixar can do no wrong with Monsters, Inc., the studio's fourth feature film, which stretches the computer animation format in terms of both technical complexity and emotional impact. The giant, blue-furred James P. "Sulley" Sullivan (wonderfully voiced by John Goodman) is a scare-monster extraordinaire in the hidden world of Monstropolis, where the scaring of kids is an imperative in order to keep the entire city running. Beyond the competition to be the best at the business, Sullivan and his assistant, the one-eyed Mike Wazowski (Billy Crystal), discover what happens when the real world interacts with theirs in the form of a 2-year-old baby girl dubbed "Boo," who accidentally sneaks into the monster world with Sulley one night. Director Pete Doctor and codirectors David Silverman and Lee Unkrich follow the Pixar (Toy Story) blueprint with an imaginative scenario, fun characters, and ace comic timing. 2009-12-16 - Such a quality Blu-ray. But ofcourse all Disney Pixar movies will look fascinating on Blu. BUY IT!

"Up" director Pete Doctor managed to release his first charm with his new movie together on Blu-Ray in the fall.
2009-12-15 - "Monsters, Inc." tells the story of a world that is full of monsters. Most monsters work in a factory to help other monsters live. The factory is called "Monsters, Inc.," which titles into the movie. They scare children for a living. But however, a little girl mysteriously falls in the monster world leaving the whole town of Monstropolis to wreak havoc. But it's up to two heroes, James P. Sullivan (John Goodman) and Mike Wazowski (Billy Crystal) to help this girl named Boo find her correct door. However, the evil Randall wants to use forces on his evil plot to hurt the girl and abandon the monsters from the girl and end up being the most successful monster in the town. It's up to Mike and Sulley to rescue Boo and return her home.

"Monsters, Inc." is a very decent film and it's one improvement that Pete Doctor used to make this movie before he made "Up." I loved "Monsters, Inc." when it was in theaters, back in 2001. There was a lot you can expect when it came through Pixar when they wanted to broaden their horizons after making "Toy Story 2." Eventually, Pixar's success made them famous with original stories like these and "Monsters, Inc." happened to be one of my favorite movies of all-time. That is until it came to movies like "Finding Nemo" and "WALL-E," but "Monsters, Inc." was their first real great movie after "Toy Story," not as counting as "A Bug's Life," which totally wrecked a long time ago, but then all of the sudden grew onto me.

I really liked how John Goodman got to do one of the voices as James P. Sullivan. He and Billy Crystal had good chemistry doing the voices of both Sulley and Mike. I even think some of the roles like from Jennifer Tilly, Steve Buscemi and the late James Coburn actually played really well. But it's not only the voices or the story that made it great, its the animation that was so superb. Pixar manages to make the animation for this movie to look surreal that they want you, for this film before "Finding Nemo," make it look visual and realistic when honestly, monsters don't exist. And the message is very sweet that scaring isn't really caring. Most things can realize that you should be more afraid of them than they should be afraid of you. And that's exactly what most messages should be.

"Monsters, Inc." sure has nothing to compare to "Toy Story" and the conflict did seem a little thin but there's nothing wrong with this movie at all.

Like the "Up" Blu-Ray, which was another film the director of this film did - recently, this Blu-Ray features a 4-Disc set. The DVD is actually the original 2002 release DVD. If you already have the original release DVD, it's totally not worth it. But you'll also receive a digital copy and two discs containing both special features and the movie itself. Also note, not on the DVD of this Blu-Ray but on disc 1 of the Blu-Ray itself, like the "Up" Blu-Ray, you'll also see a special sneak peek for "Toy Story 3," which comes out June 2010, so be on the lookout for that.

The two short films, "Mike's New Car" and "For the Birds," are also seen on disc 1 of the Blu-Ray rather than on disc 2 where the special features are. But the second disc will contain features that were seen on disc 2 of the DVD. You'll also see original 2-Disc DVD special features on the disc 2 Blu-Ray. Also the new content will contain a Roz's 100-Door Challenge Game, Building Monstropolis in Japan and Filmmaker's Round Table. And yes, the digital copy is worth it.

If you haven't bought "Monsters, Inc." yet and already have a Blu-Ray player, enjoy this set. It's worth buying. Just don't expect a perfect DVD of it, just expect some fun.

New classic, a must in toons library
2009-12-14 - I do not need to say how good is this movie, because if you do not yet know it, then is simply because you have not seen it. However the reason I am taking off a star is because one more time Disney has published the DVD version without Spanish track, which is annoying considering that the B-Ray version includes it and if you want a DVD copy is because you wan the possibility to watch the same movie in those places where you do not have BR-player available.
