Editorial Review:
Genre: Horror Rating: UN Release Date: 8-SEP-2009 Media Type: Blu-Ray Requiem for a Dream (Director's Cut) [Blu-ray] Reviews: About this Blu-Ray... 2009-11-19 - First of all, this really is a stunning, staggering, heart-wrenching film. It's sad and beautiful world (as Jim Jarmusch might say) full of flawed characters, and Ellen Burstyn was magnificent. That Julia Roberts won Best Actress over her is a crime against decent film-lovers everywhere. But be fore-warned: Based on the novel by Hubert Selby, this is NOT a plucky, feel-good experience. It's overwhelmingly raw, and probably not for all tastes ( I'm looking at you, Norbit fans)
But, as for this disc: Here is a prime example of why people bother upgrading their media to the latest-and-greatest format. Daily, I have to fight the urge to waste money on new versions of movies I already own (& I did already own the fine Requiem for a Dream (Director's Cut) DVD of this), but I couldn't resist a film that looks and sounds this good. [Side note: The Kronos Quartet soundtrack is spectacular.]
If you've already got the setup (HDTV or projector, sound system, etc) than you can do a lot worse. And for even more eye-candy, give The Fountain a try.
A great movie! 2009-11-04 - Despite of the raw content of the movie, I give this movie 5 stars because the director of the film is able to show the underground world where people may be left while consuming any kind of drugs. It is dramatic, powerful, sad and shocking.
Furthermore, blu-ray movies are the only way to watch movies at home. Therefore, Requiem for a Dream is a highly recommended movie and its quality just awesome.
RELAX AND ENJOY A SUPERB MOVIE 2009-10-31 - This outstanding piece of art should be seen by every teen thinking of escaping into some placating world away from a disturbing environment they call reality. I wish I had when I was younger. Do not try to figure out what to expect, do not dissect every frame with pompous imaginings like some viewers and commenters like MauricioD. He seems to be obsessed with his definition of surrealism. I'm sure Aronofsky didn't look in a dictionary to mold his movie or to be weighed down by a definition. Surreal is in the eyes of the beholder. Just sit back and be mesmerized by a well-woven story with a powerful message. It will blow you away! It's worth 3 times the price. I recently purchased a second copy to give to my 15-yr old nephew, and we will sit down and have a long talk afterwards.
Great movie, Great quality 2009-10-05 - If you haven't seen this movie, you should. It's pretty deep. Seeing it again on Blu-ray makes it that much more intense.
Fantastic Movie 2009-10-03 - Requiem for a Dream is the movie I saw when I was younger that was such a great movie and also an advocate to not do drugs. This is the kind of movie they should show in schools to deter them from choosing the druggy lifestyle.
