Captivating Read 
2009-04-09 - All I can say is wow. What a talent. The author portrays a bleak exsistence for the main character that is palpable. This excerpt grabbed me and held me from word one to the end. The subject matter is gritty, no doubt, but the author weaves in a tenderness that encourages you to read on to uncover why he is where he is. Impressive start!
Vivid descriptions and a fast pace
2009-03-22 - This novel took me, a Canadian who has never visited New York, right into the heart of the underworld of New York City, and treated me to an honest, open and fearless look at the life of a NYC male prostitute. The author quickly sets up an intriguing situation and dramatic emotional tension, but it was the author's worldview I appreciated most - a book that doesn't mince words or avoid showing certain situations is bound to be one that will open minds and say something real about life.
A story that screams to be read to the end
2009-03-19 - 'Far From Happy' by Jennifer Lopez immediately plunges the reader into the turmoil that is the life of Jackson Fouchet. The male prostitute is summoned back to his New Orleans home in the middle of the night, only to discover that one of his sister's is in the hospital and her chances are looking pretty grim.
The cold, gritty underbelly of New York City engulfs the reader, giving empathy to Jackson while making us cringe at the hard life he leads. Ms Lopez is a master of prose, making it hard to pull my eyes away from a story that screams to be read to the end.
I definitely want to read this novel in its entirety.

One of my favorites
2009-03-18 - I want to start out by saying I usually don't like books that I consider 'dramas' but this book touched me. It wasn't sentimental but it was emotional. It covers dark topics but it isn't depressing. I was captivated by Jackson. I wanted to know what made him tick. In some ways, he reminded me of myself in the way I'm always running away from who I am.
This book will make you love, make you think, make you cry. It is well worth reading.
An eye opening experience.
2009-03-18 - I've read this whole novel on the TNBW website. It creates a wide range of emotions as you follow Jackson very graphically through the streets of New York and back home to his family where he finally accepts who he is. I cried, laughed, became angry, and most of all, I was shocked. I couldn't put it down. I'd buy this novel in a heartbeat, just reading the first few pages, the hook was set. What an education! Thanks for the read, Jeni! It was worth the trip. You have planted a very vivid picture in my mind that will stay there for a long time.
