I'm Real, Pt. 2 Reviews:
Really Remixed
2002-08-03 - The second in a set of two singles issued for "I'm Real" in Australia, like the previously reviewed first disk, it contains remixes for all sorts of fans, but they aren't generally as strong as those found on the first single. The explicit Murder Remix and the radio edit of the song are both present again, and are followed by a mundane dance radio edit by Dezrok, who offered a better full length remix on the first single. Also returning with secondary mixes, are the Dreem Teem with another snappy UK garage rub and Pablo Flores with a euro-dub take for the clubs. The main club mix though, is the "D.MD Strong Club", which comes very close to eleven minutes of dance floor ready beats and vocals. Not really as strong, it does provide some nice secondary reworkings for dedicated fans and for DJs bored with the other main mixes on the CD1 single.
I'm Guilty as Charged.
2002-07-09 - Yes, this song is hollow, shameless, and tacky, but ranks high on my list of guilty pleasures. The nondescript album cut gets drastically remixed to a hip hop beat and is set to Ja Rule's growl. It's irresistible and fun, but you may hate yourself in the morning.
J Lo & Ja Rule get "Real"
2002-03-04 - This is a really tight jam and I'd be very suprised if you haven't heard it yet. Ja Rule's low & scratchy tone of his voice and J Lo's beautiful higher sounding voice match up perfectly...like Beauty & The beast. The beats and background music are fabulous & this song is also dance-floor friendly as well. No remixing needed. It really deserved the title as "Hit of the Summer." Even though there was the whole issue of Tommy Mottola (MAriah Carey's ex husband and CEO of Sony) I still like this song...a lot. Overall Grade for "I'm Real (Murda Remix w/ Ja Rule)": A-/B+.
J Lo brings out the best single on the album.
2001-12-10 - Jennifer Lopez brings out her best single yet, surpassing her previous hits Love Don't Cost A Thing (Okay), Play (Good) and Ain't It Funny (I like the whole gypsy thing in the video) with the radiant I'm Real. The song sparks with attitude and a great beat, and the amazing remix (with Ja Rule) provides a cool duet with a more sleek, donbeat and laid back vibe than the original. The Ja Rule Remix makes the CD worth it, plus there's great remixes by Dezrok (has worked with remix producer Hex Hector) and the Dreem Team (UK garage crew).
Overall a great purchase which should stand out as Jennifer's greatest songs yet.
