Editorial Review:
One morning, Jenny McCarthy sensed something was wrong and ran into her two-year-old son Evan's room to discover him seizing. In that moment, Jenny was thrust into the midst of a medical odyssey. After numerous misdiagnoses and many harrowing, life-threatening episodes, Evan was finally diagnosed with autism. But Jenny didn't know what to do next and soon found herself alone, without any resources except for her determination to help her son. Realizing that she'd have to become a detective, Jenny spoke with many doctors, parents, governmental agencies, and private foundations and became an expert of Google research. At last, she discovered a combination of behavioral therapy, diet, and supplements that became the key to saving Evan from autism. Here, she shares her experiences and knowledge and offers a roadmap for other concerned parents.

Louder Than Words: A Mother's Journey in Healing Autism Reviews:
Great book. 5 Star Review
2009-09-20 - Awesome book- very easy to read. An amazing story that prompts me to look for more information.

Up-front and honest, A mom's ordeal with her son and autism. 5 Star Review
2009-08-31 - Such a help for me to read this. Good to see Jenny's opinions on causes and treatments of autism. I know they are shared by many. She writes a story of victory over autism and how much work needs to be done by the professionals who treat this disease. A must read.

Excellent in every way. Finally someone to speak out against vaccines. 5 Star Review
2009-08-03 - This is a great book and I love that the author was willing to go against the health care system. I don't understand people who think doctors are gods. What are the secrets that doctors have that we "common folk" don't have access to? I have a number of degrees, none of which are in the medical field, but I can't imagine that there is anything I know that couldn't be found in a book or on the internet. I understand the need to have doctors and I'm very thankful for people who specialize in different fields, but just because someone becomes a lawyer or a doctor doesn't mean that they are good at what they do.

Awesome! 5 Star Review
2009-07-29 - Very real, very informative. I absolutely loved this book. I love how Jenny is so real and to the point. I recommend this book to every parent who has a child with autism.

A mother's memoir of her son's diagnosis with autism 4 Star Review
2009-07-28 - I read this book in one sitting and thoroughly enjoyed it. I do not have a child with autism and my experience with autism is limited to the students in my general education middle school who generally have mild forms of autism.

But I read this book expecting it to be a "memoir" of one mother's experiences with the diagnosis and early treatments of her autistic child. And that is exactly what this was. This was not a "self-help" book, nor a scientific monograph about how to treat autism.

The author did a great job of communicating her emotions throughout the book - I could feel her frustration, her confusion, her sadness, her hope. And I was intrigued with the portion of the book where she reflected on her son before the autism diagnosis and recognized signs she had not accurately recognized before.

I appreciate her efforts to help her child. I can understand her need to get information from every source she can find - books, the internet, others dealing with similar situations. I am pleased for her that treatments seem to have helped her child, and my heart breaks for all of those parents who have also investigated all sorts of treatments that have been unsuccessful for their child.
