Stars Neve Campbell, David Arquette, and Courteney Cox Arquette are back for more in the chilling final chapter of this phenomenally popular and frightfully entertaining trilogy! While Sidney Prescott (Campbell) lives in safely guarded seclusion, bodies begin dropping around the Hollywood set of STAB 3, the latest movie sequel based on the gruesome Woodsboro killings! And when the escalating terror finally brings her out of hiding, Sidney and other Woodsboro survivors are once again drawn into an insidious game of horror movie mayhem! But just when they thought they knew how to play by the rules, they discover that all the rules have been broken! Featuring hot newcomers Parker Posey (THE HOUSE OF YES) and Jenny McCarthy (DIAMONDS) in another stellar ensemble cast, SCREAM 3 offers an unmatched mix of thrills, laughter, and suspense that bring this spine-tingling saga to an unforgettable conclsuion!
Description of Scream 3 (Dimension Collector's Series):
When Randy the video geek rattles off the rules of surviving a horror movie in Wes Craven's Scream, he speaks for a generation of filmgoers who are all too aware of slasher movie clichés. Playfully scripted by Kevin Williamson with a self-aware wink and more than a few nods to its grandfathers (from Psycho to Halloween to the Friday the 13th dynasty), Scream skewers teen horror conventions with loving reverence while re-creating them in a modern, movie-savvy context. And so goes the series, which continues the satirical spoofing by tackling (what else?) sequels while sustaining its own self-contained mythology. Catty reporter Gale Weathers (Courteney Cox) turns grisly murders into lurid bestsellers, a cult of killer wannabes continues to hunt spunky psycho-survivor Sydney Prescott (Neve Campbell) for their 15 minutes of fame, and a cheesy movie series (Stab) develops within the movie series.
Scream remains the high point of the series--a fresh take on a genre long since collapsed into routine, but Scream 2 spoofs itself with witty humor ("Why would anyone want to do that? Sequels suck!" opines college film student Randy), and delights with more elaborate set pieces and all-new rules for surviving a horror movie sequel. The endangered veterans of the original film reunite one last time for Scream 3, which plays out on the movie set of Stab 3. (It's a trilogy within a trilogy!) With Williamson gone, replacement screenwriter Ehran Kruger tries to mine the formula one more time. It's a little tired by now, and pale imitations (Urban Legend, I Know What You Did Last Summer) have further drained the zeitgeist, but the film bubbles with bright humor, and director Craven is stylistically at the top of his game. As a trilogy, it remains both the most consistently entertaining and self-aware horror series ever made. --Sean Axmaker
Scream 3 (Dimension Collector's Series) Reviews:
ONCE AGAIN, A SCREAMING GOOD HORROR FILM 8.5 OUT OF 10
2009-10-24 - Unfortunately, critics didn't particularly like this film, and people are divided about this third film. While I will admit that it falls below the standards set by the previous films, this is still a very good slasher that puts on a good show, and like its predecessors still serves as a great late-night horror film.
WHAT IT'S ABOUT: The film starts off with Cotton Weary (The man Sidney accused of murdering her mother in the first film) who is now a millionaire who has his own television show, and then he and his girlfriend are murdered in their lavish home by another copycat killer. Then we are once again introduced to Sidney Prescott who has tried to move on from the events of the first two films and now lives in a secluded place and runs a telephone women's helpline. However, her life as well as the lives of Gale Weathers and Dewy are turned upside down once again when actors on the set of the film Stab 3 start getting killed by the copycat killer and the other actors on the set are also dragged into a grand plot to killing Sidney. Unfortunately, Kevin Williamson didn't write the script for this film, and it doesn't leave you guessing as much as the first two. It's simply an okay plot.
MUSIC: Marco Beltrami is no slouch once again and the music in this film is pretty good and is never boring.
ACTION: This film isn't as action-packed as the first two and the gore has been downgraded which is disappointing. This film is still pretty action-packed though and was rarely ever boring, but there were some boring moments which dragged the film down. But, for the most part this area is pretty good like it should be.
ACTING: Returning actors Neve Campbell, Courtney Cox, and David Arquette deliver great performances once again as they did in the previous films, but the other actors aren't so notable. The other actors are a mixed bag; some are good while others are just plain awful. Overall, this area is half and half.
HUMOR: This film has a bit more humor than the second film which is a plus. But it doesn't have the humor flare of the first film. But still, this film can be pretty funny and there is a good deal of witty dialogue.
OVERALL: Despite the areas this film lacks in, it's still a great film to watch. While people are mixed on it, it sure beats the hell out of watching crap like Prom Night. This is a solid third entry that is well-made and still pretty entertaining, and once again is a great late-night horror flick. I can't wait for the upcoming Scream 4!
THE GOOD: Great music, pretty action-packed, a good sense of humor, and a good portion of the actors are good.
THE BAD: Underwhelming plot, not as much action, not all actors are great, and some boring moments.
In the end, no one can hear you Scream...
2009-07-06 - Scream 3 wraps up the trilogy of the best American Horror/Slasher revivial of the 90's and early 2000's. After narrowly surviving 2 psychotic events, Syndney Prescott is now in hiding, secluded from any human contact, and coping with the horrific events of her life, and her mother's death. And that is what the final chapter of a horror trilogy is all about... going back to the begining and discoving there are more skeletons in the closet then you or anyone knew.
Scream 3 takes Kevin Williamson's amazing horror story, and concludes the 3rd chapter of Sydney Prescott and the Ghost faced killer that never stays dead. This time, the success of STAB and STAB 2, plus all the events at the Winsor College have launched a STAB 3 movie, which mirrors the haunting events of Sydney's life...and the terrifying eventst to come.
Again, some of the best cinematic elements, scenes, and nods to the genre/its best, Scream 3 loops you all the way back to the begining of the story, and leaves you gasping for air. Turn down the lights, and grab a blanket, for the thrilling and terror filled conclustion to the Scream story....
... or is it?
"A horror story cannot have an ending... until the main character is killed"
Scream 4 is coming soon...
The Game Concludes... Maybe...
2009-04-11 - SCREAM 3 is the final (?) installment in the parody / satire / horror trilogy from the devious mind of Wes Craven. All of the stops have indeed been pulled out for this one, folks! Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox, and David Arquette reunite one last (?) time to confront the diabolical ghost-face killer. This time out, they must visit the set of STAB 3, where art is immitating life immitating art, or something like that. Yep, the murders have started once more! This movie pokes more fun at itself, horror movies in general, and the emptyheaded-ness of hollywood. Overflowing w/ humour (Parker Posey is hilarious), both subtle and obvious, S3 deconstructs the movie trilogy idea by turning it inside out, upside down, and leaving nothing left as sacred! Cool cameos (Roger Corman, Carrie Fisher, et al) and overblown sets, full of secret passages add to the festivities. S3 is a fittingly raucus end (?) to the series. Highly recommended... P.S.- As of this writing, the forever-rumoured SCREAM 4 appears to be in production. Or is it??...
Awesome series
2009-03-09 - These Scream movies are excellent. They are very realistic and scary. The atmosphere's are great for each film and again seem very realistic like you are there with the characters making it all the more shocking. This series played out very well and I can only hope they make part 4. There are so many loose ends and the end of Scream 3 left fans wondering if it really was the end. Excellent set of the Scream trilogy (thus far)
Great movies but DVD is not widescreen compatable
2009-02-12 - The movies are great. Really good special features and bonus DVD-ROM disc. The only problem...even though they are presented in their original 2.35 aspect ratio, they are not anamorphic. What does that mean? If you have widescreen TV (16X9) the film will not automatically adjust to the screen. It will stretch it and you will have to zoom the picture to get it to look right.
Black bars would have appeared regarless due to the 2.35 picture (a 1.85 aspect ratio that is amamorphic would fill the screen) but when zoomed, you lose picture quality. This box set has been discontinued and I bet that is why.
If you have a regular TV (4X3) you will be fine (the back bars will appear on top and bottom as they should to give you the widescreen picture.)
Hope this helps the movie purists.
