Editorial Review:
A Public Affair is a disco-studded, stunningly entertaining, 13-song slab of energetic white-girl pop. From the summer-fizzy first song and title track--which lifts, improbably, from both Madonna and the Supremes--Simpson tears out of the gate refusing to fall back on stale-sounding power ballads, something of a signature in the past. "You Spin Me Round" updates the Dead or Alive '80s hit; the vampy and innovative "B.O.Y." borrows from a vintage Cars track; and "Walkin' 'Round in a Circle," about as sleepy a track as you'll find here, seems to put a kind of pop spit-shine on a tune both Stevie Nicks and Ryan Adams popularized. Later tracks, including the excellent Louis Prima-inspired "Swing with Me" and the shockingly urban-sounding "Fired Up," bring Simpson's inner femme fatale to the fore. Let's hope it doesn't slink away anytime soon--other Simpson discs have been forgettable, but this is an affair to remember. --Tammy La Gorce

A Public Affair Reviews:
JESSICA SIMPSON "A PUBLIC AFFAIR" 4 Star Review
2008-09-15 - I've been a fan of Jessica Simpson's since "I Wanna Love You Forever" and after listening to that song, if you do become a fan, it's clear why...her voice. I like her as a person, she can be funny on Newlyweds, personally I think it's a bit of an act, I don't think she's as stupid as she makes out, but if she is, good for her for making loads of money.

Back to the music, her latest album is country, some people haven't taken to it and some people will just dismiss it simply because it's Jessica Simpson, I personally love it, but that's a different review. On "A Public Affar" the songs are just like her first two albums, very pop, but for me, it's her voice that always comes out on top, she might not be in the same league as Mariah Carey or Tina Arena, vocally, but she's way ahead of most singers who are having success these days. I think "Walkin' 'Round In A Circle," "The Lover In Me" and "Back To You" are the three best songs on the album, "Walkin' 'Round In A Circle" and "The Lover In Me" are two catchy midtempo songs and "Back To You" is a nice ballad that shows her voice of nicely, any of the three (if not all) should have been released as singles.

I think "A Public Affair," "You Spin Me Round (Like A Record)," "If You Were Mine," "Walkin' 'Round In A Circle," "The Lover In Me," "Swing With Me," "Push Your Tush," (even with it's cheesey lyrics) "Back To You," "I Don't Want To Care" and "I Belong To Me" are all brilliant songs, I'm not that keen on "B.O.Y.," "Between You & I," "Fired Up" and "Let Him Fly" but the rest of the album is great.

The Best Song is Not Even on This Version of the CD! 3 Star Review
2008-06-08 - "I Belong to Me" is the best song on this cd, and its only on the Extra Track Edition that costs more. Go figure.

I love Jessica and try to support her and her music. Yet this cd was a stretch even for this fan. The songs range from mediocre ("A Public Affair") to horrid ("Push the Tush") and I would give the cd 1 star if Simpson's voice wasn't so great. This cd is over-done with the crazy beats often overshadowing Simpson's voice. She tries to cover many different genres on one cd; yet, she never seems to get it quite right. She seems lost, she's trying to do too much and we just end up with a forgetable album.

Fantasy 4 Star Review
2008-06-03 - Jessica,Jessica,Jessica if there really was a woman as pure and as sweet and simple but stylish as she pretends to be every manwould be happy, but alast, it is but a Show, a Fantasy. enjoy. simple, sweet, sometimes too sweet, but that is Jessica and that is her music.

This really DESERVES a ZERO!!! 1 Star Review
2008-05-05 - Im not gonna go into full detail about this MESS. Except that Jessica Simpson is talented and has amazing voice to the likes of Mariah Carey and Christina Aguilera. However she just doesnt know what to do with it. She works with the wrong people & she really needs a mainstream producer to PUT her VOICE on the MAP & Utilize it to the best of her ability. This album was a MESS & thank goodness for technology cause i RIPPED it & added it to my iPod. I refuse to SPEND MONEY on this mess. That being said i only liked 1 song & that didnt even make it on the album unless she did a re-release and its called "I Belong To Me". Jessica here is to your next album which i hope will be better then everything else you released.

Amazing 5 Star Review
2008-04-14 - If you are looking for the perfect cd to humble you this is the one. There are so many emotions running through every song. If you want to feel up beat listen to "A Public Affair". If you are missing something listen to "Right Back to You". It just an amazing perfect of artwork. You can tell Jessica put her whole heart and sole into making this album. Buy if you want to be happy.
